Weapon Master (Content Checklist)

Colored sprite art for the Weapon Master challenge.

Weapons are any objects that can be used to directly attack a character.

General[]

Currently, there are 20+ weapons that the protagonist can use to kill a student. Each weapon has its own strengths and weaknesses, so the player has many options when it comes to killing students. Weapons fall into any of the 6 categories: small stabbing weapon, large stabbing weapon, small bludgeoning weapon, large bludgeoning weapon, small strangulation weapons, and large strangulation weapons. There is also the Circular Saw and Chainsaw which is normally used for dismemberment but can also be used for murder.

Some weapons are considered non-suspicious and will not result in a reputation penalty if the protagonist is seen carrying them. Other weapons, however, are considered generally suspicious, such as a fire extinguisher or a pipe wrench. Some weapons aren't considered suspicious if the protagonist is a member of a certain club.

Some weapons can be easily concealed, while others cannot. The protagonist cannot use a non-concealable weapon when fighting against NPCs, because the weapon is too unwieldy to use in close quarters and will result in automatically losing the struggle. Any non-concealable weapon can be hidden and carried inside a Cello Case, a Trash Can, or a Weapon Bag. Concealable weapons may be put in a container as well.

The reputation penalty for being spotted with a suspicious weapon is 10 points, 15 points, and 20 points during high, medium, and low School Atmosphere. If a friend or a student that is affected by the protagonist's seduction level sees her with a weapon, her reputation will be affected by 8 points, 13 points, and 18 points based on the School Atmosphere. If she is in the Occult Club, it will take longer for students to notice her carrying a dangerous weapon.

If Senpai sees the protagonist with a suspicious weapon, he will become terrified of her, resulting in the "Heartbroken" Game Over. If a terrified person sees the protagonist with a suspicious weapon, they will decide that the protagonist is a murderer. In other cases, people who spot the protagonist with a suspicious weapon will react according to their persona.

If someone sees a non-suspicious weapon on the ground, at least 10 meters away from its initial location, they will pick up the item and bring it to its original place. Some suspicious weapons, such as a fire extinguisher, may also be picked up and brought to its place, but most of them will scare students, so if a student sees a "scary" weapon, they will call a teacher. If a teacher sees a "scary" weapon, she will bring it to the Faculty room.

Killing animations[]

Each weapon has 4 killing animations, depending on sanity:[1][2]

  • Stealth kill: Performed from behind with the victim unaware. Quick, quiet, and clean.
  • High sanity kill: Efficient, but not as fast as a stealth kill. Produces some extra noise and blood. Takes 2 seconds.
  • Medium sanity kill: The victim struggles a little bit. The kill is sloppy and messy, taking more time. Takes 4 seconds.
  • Low sanity kill: Very prolonged killing animation that is brutal and sadistic. Victim screams and struggles to get away. The player has the option to make the protagonist continue to attack her victim indefinitely by mashing the "attack" button, causing a segment of the animation to loop until the player stops mashing the button. Takes 6 seconds if not prolonged by button mashing.

Low sanity kill animations last longer than high sanity ones.[3]

More animations could show additional kill techniques that vary depending on weapon type and current sanity level.[4] Ideally, every weapon will eventually have a unique animation set. If this cannot happen, a less ideal scenario would be that each weapon type, (short, stabbing, long, and bludgeoning), has its own animation set. At worst, all weapons will have the same animation.[5]

YandereDev will not implement any more animations into the game unless he has four sets of four animations for short sharp, long sharp, long blunt, and for the circular saw.[6]

Weapons by Category[]

Small Blades[]

Currently, only these weapons can be used for self-defense in struggles.

All knife-like weapons are small and can be easily concealed. However, if the protagonist uses one of them, she will get blood not only on weapons, but also on her clothes and the ground. Another disadvantage is that these weapons, except the makeshift knife and syringe, can be spotted with a metal detector.

When the "Knife only" restriction is enabled, the player is allowed to use only these weapons to kill the rivals.

Long Blades[]

These weapons cannot be concealed or used in struggles. Using them always makes a huge splash of blood that gets on clothes and on the ground. Some of these weapons have additional features. For example, the circular saw and chainsaw can be used for dismemberment.

Bludgeoning[]

These weapons get bloody only during front attacks and never leave splashes of blood on clothes or the ground. As of January 5th 2024 Build, this has been partially changed. If the player performs a stealth or front attack with any of the weapons listed down below, the attack will result in the protagonist getting blood only on her clothes, but not the ground. However, they can't be concealed or used in self-defense. Some of them can be carried through a metal detector.

Trivia[]

  • As of the October 15th, 2017 Build, sound effects for picking up weapons have been added.
  • It is theoretically possible for a pencil to become a weapon, but YandereDev does not find it cool enough. He wants all weapons to be cool.[7]
  • There are more weapons available in the small town, which were implemented on the July 15th 2024 Build, but some of them still lack functionality .[8]
  • YandereDev has stated in an interview that the katana might be something that Kocho Shuyona confiscated and just never got rid of.[9]
    • As of the November 15th, 2016 Build, the katana is located in the Headmaster's Office.
    • The headmaster was said to have never touched the katana since 1988.
  • Ranged weapons will most likely not be in the game.[10] This is likely to prevent the game from becoming too easy, as nobody has defense against any ranged weapon (like a helmet). For example, with a sniper rifle, crossbow, or even a pistol (which is easily concealable), all what one needs to do is to shoot, hide, then dispose of the weapon. It can be said that even without a silenced weapon, it is extremely easy to win Senpai by killing all the rivals. The game is also a school environment, so most likely very few opponents will ever get to use a ranged weapon that definitely requires another to defeat.
    • However, while the player cannot use any, there are NPCs with ranged weapons. The main example is the headmaster, who owns a taser that immediately causes a Game Over and has a longer range than any other weapon.
    • Though the police are never seen with any ranged weapons, they might carry a pistol at the very least for security purposes.
    • Additionally, YandereDev does not want to add ranged weapons to the game due to the sharp increase in school shootings in the United States in the past decade.[11]
  • Formerly, there were only 3 regular animations with a murder weapon: a sideways stab to the neck for the knife, scissors, box cutter, screwdriver, syringe, and ritual knife, a slam to the head for the katana, baseball bat, shovel, dumbbell, and a unique animation for the circular saw. There is also a stab in the head whenever the protagonist wins a fight against a Heroic student and another when kidnapped victims finish a murder-suicide. All of the weapon animations have been replaced with the sanity-based attacks, except during fights against a Heroic student.
  • The animation used for the larger weapon and high sanity attack animations (except the circular saw) is also used for when the old delinquents attack the protagonist.
  • The protagonist intends to kill when the player presses the "attack" button. There is no chance of knocking the victim unconscious or leaving them "half-dead".[12]
  • There is a possibility that a sniper mini-game will be added purely for fun.[13] However, a sniper equivalent in the game is unlikely. With one, it will harm the gameplay experience since the weapon will likely sustain against several rivals before it risks discovery by Senpai.
  • It is very important to YandereDev that there's a cheat code or Easter Egg which unlocks a giant sci-fi energy scythe.[14]
  • In the future, it is possible that if students see a certain weapon lying around, they will give it to a teacher.[15]
  • YandereDev does not have the animations nor the models for choking someone with a rope or a chain yet.[16]
  • Cleaning bloody weapons can be done using a sink and the Drinking Fountains.[17]
  • YandereDev's favorite weapon is the cyborg ninja sword.[18]
  • It was intially planned to have more weapons in the game, such as a butcher knife,[19] a gardening sickle,[14] a painting knife.[20] soda cans,[21] gardening shears[22] and a glass cutter.[23] There would even be different types of weapons, such as two-handed, swinging, and stabbing.[24] However, YandereDev explained that the Chainsaw was the last weapon he wanted to add into the game.[25]
