Ui Tunesu Gallery
Ui Tunesu (a.k.a Witness-chan) is one of the female students who attended Akademi in 1980s Mode.
Appearance[]
Current[]
Ui has lower-back length, messy scarlet hair tied into twin tails held by white hair ties. Her bangs reach just above her eyes and are parted to the left, exposing part of her left eyebrow. There are two strands of hair that reach her neck and curl inwards. She has scarlet eyes. Her bust size is 1.[3]
She wears the default 1980s uniform along with a dark gray apron with stars and lines drawn on it.
Previous[]
Prior to the November 15th, 2021 Build, her hair and eyes were solid red, and her pigtails were neater.
Prior to her initial removal from the game, she wore the default uniform.
When she was re-implemented in the October 17th, 2019 Build as a street background character, she was seen wearing a maid outfit.
Personality[]
During Ui's final year of high school, a series of mysterious incidents plagued her school.
Students would return from P.E. class to discover that an unknown vandal had tampered with their belongings. In some cases, the vandal had poured water, dirt, or mud all over a student's possessions. In other cases, the student's belongings were completely destroyed, or outright missing. There seemed to be no pattern whatsoever to the vandalism; as far as anyone could tell, students were being targeted at random.
For over a month, this mysterious vandal terrorized the school, creating an atmosphere of tension and fear. But, eventually, a girl stepped forward and confessed that she was the culprit. She explained that she had been blackmailed by another girl at school, and that the girl had commanded her to vandalize the belongings of specific students. Apparently, the blackmailer had once been a victim of merciless bullying, and these instances of vandalism were the girl's way of getting revenge on the students who had bullied her.
The vandal was none other than Ui's best friend. This was a massive shock to Ui, who had not detected even the slightest clue that her closest companion was connected to the vandalism. She also hadn't realized that one of the girls in her class was being bullied, or noticed that all of the victims of the vandalism actually did have something in common with one another. In retrospect, she felt that the vandal's identity should have been obvious to her from the beginning.
This incident affected Ui dramatically. She couldn't help but wonder if she could have prevented the entire incident by simply being more observant. If only she had paid closer attention to her best friend, she would have realized what was going on, and would have intervened before the situation had a chance to escalate so drastically. She felt an overwhelming sense of guilt, almost as if the entire situation had been her fault.
From that day onward, Ui swore to never allow a similar incident escape her notice. She became an extremely vigilant young woman, constantly on the lookout for potential warning signs that a hidden crisis was secretly underway. This earned her a reputation as a nosy girl who is utterly incapable of minding her own business - some students have even begun to refer to her by the mocking nickname of "Witness-chan."
However, none of this bothers her in the slightest. As long as she can prevent even a single person from being traumatized or hurt, she doesn't care how others might judge her.
Ui's reaction to a camera.
A girl who is utterly incapable of minding her own business. Always personally investigates people who she suspects of doing shady things, which has earned her the nickname of 'Witness-chan."
Among the Personas that are currently implemented in the game, Ui is a Snitch. If she sees a corpse or witnesses a murder, she will run to the landline phone in the Faculty Room and call the Police. She cannot participate in physical fights against murderers.
According to her profile on the Character Page of the Game's Website, her weakness is "Paranoia."[1]
Background[]
When YandereDev was asked the reason why Ui cares a lot about justice, he gave a thorough explanation:
Ui once had a negative experience previously in her life. It was in high school. A student in her class did a bunch of bad things for an entire school year - stealing classmates' belongings, pouring water on their stuff, putting dirt in a student's flute so that when the student played flute, they would taste dirt, etc. This student did all of these things in secret; nobody was ever able to catch them, not until the end of the school year. It was Ui's best friend, who was doing these things to "get revenge" on anyone who bullied her.
Ui realized that she can't really trust anyone, because even your best friend might be lying to you and hiding a bunch of bad behavior. She saw a bunch of "clues" that her friend was the one responsible for the bad behavior, but chose to ignore them. After that, she became extra vigilant and always kept an eye out for weird or suspicious behavior, not wanting to let the situation with her best friend repeat itself ever again.[4]
Scenes[]
Ui first appeared in "How to Get Away with Murder in Yandere Simulator". In the video, she witnessed Victim-chan being murdered by Ayano Aishi. She then ran out of the school and called the Police. She was later murdered by Ayano and left on school grounds along with other evidence. This ultimately caused Ayano to be arrested.
She briefly appeared in January Osana Progress Report - Part 1 and Making Senpai Reject A Love Confession In Yandere Simulator, where she witnessed Ayano poisoning Osana Najimi's bento.
She appeared again in 1980s Mode. She was an important part of the tutorial, as she saw Ryoba Aishi take a Knife from the Cooking Club, showing the new players how to apologize to a student, preventing losing a lot of Reputation. She is also quite important at the end of the game, since she told the police everything she witnessed Ryoba do, giving The Journalist enough evidence to accuse Ryoba of murder.
Routine[]
Regular[]
Ui giving food to Kagemori Takagi.
At 7:05 AM, Ui enters the school grounds with the other members of the Cooking Club. She walks to her locker at 7:10 AM and changes from her outdoor shoes to her indoor shoes. At 7:15 AM, she walks to the Cooking Club and prepares some food with the rest of the members there. She then travels around the school to give the food to various students.
At 8:00 AM, she walks into Classroom 1-1 and sits at her desk. She starts her morning classes at 8:30 AM. She leaves to eat lunch with her clubmates at 1:00 PM.
She walks back to class at 1:30 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, she heads to the Cooking Club and stays there until the end of the day. If Ryoba joins in club activities, she will prepare a meal from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
If the Cooking Club is disbanded, Ui will socialize with the other former members in the Home Ec Room during periods in which she would normally attend it.
Tutorial[]
Ui can be seen standing next to Cooking Club, until Ryoba takes the knife. Later, she reappears standing outside the Incinerator gates and asks Ryoba why she took a knife out of the cooking club. After making an excuse and apologizing to her, the time will reach 5:59, and she will vanish.
Previous[]
Ui had a different routine from all the other students, being placed at the front of the school so she would be able to see Victim-chan's death. Her routine included standing in a corner where she could witness Victim-chan being murdered. She was kind of like Kokona Haruka, a test subject, but less complex.
When she was in Buraza Town, she stood outside the Maid Café in the town doing the idle animation of the "Sweet" pose.

| The player can visit the Infirmary on the school's first floor on the west wing, and ask Juri Nagasawa for some headache alleviating medicine. She will hand over the needed pills to the player. As this object does not take up space in the player's inventory, it can be checked by opening the phone menu and checking through the inventory app to see the item "Headache Medicine". | |

Relationships[]
The Journalist[]
- Main article: The Journalist
Ui is probably seen as trustworthy by the Journalist, when he mentioned everything Ui told the police that she witnessed Ryoba do at court for Ryoba's case.
Student Council[]
- Main article: Student Council
When girls in Akademi started to die or disappear, Ui naturally thought that the Student Council was not enough to keep the student body safe.[5] She did, however, warn them about Ryoba's danger to other people at Akademi.[6] This explains why the student council is cautious around Ryoba.
Ryoba Aishi[]
- Main article: Ryoba Aishi
Ui was suspicious of Ryoba when she witnessed her doing something off. She told the police everything she witnessed Ryoba do.
However, after Ryoba was declared innocent in court, Ui felt a tremendous amount of guilt for providing the police with information that led them to suspect Ryoba of murder and felt responsible for all of the negative media attention that had entered Ryoba's life. She personally apologized to Ryoba for what she had done. Ryoba was originally planning on killing her before then, but now knowing Ui wasn't a threat, she let her live. Afterwards, Ui decided to stop snooping around in anyone else's business or accuse anyone of anything ever again.
A part of Ui would never stop being suspicious of Ryoba, and she would only apologize to Ryoba if it were to reduce the chances of Ryoba tracking her down and murdering her.[7]
Trivia[]
- Ui was added to YandereDev's "characters" on March 23rd, 2025.
- The student's name, "Ui Tunesu" (ウイつねす), is claimed to mean/reminisce "witness" in Japanglish. However, this is likely an oversight on the developer's part, as the correct Japanglish word for "witness" is ウィットネス (Uittonesu).
- A better choice for her name would have therefore been "Ui Tonesu," which aligns more closely with the word.
- She was initially removed from the game along with Victim-chan because they only existed for the sake of demonstrating a game feature in one video and because they weren't fully fleshed-out characters.[8]
- Her initial existence in the school may be proven by looking at the JSON files from some old builds (from March 1st, 2015 to April 8th, 2015) and in videos posted by YandereDev in the past.
- She was formerly in the Gardening Club and in Classroom 1-2.
- The personality described in the profile would be more like the Sleuth persona, and yet she has the Snitch persona.
- YandereDev admitted that he's never thought about why Ui chose to join the Cooking Club.[9]
- Her first hair model was the same as Tsundere-chan's and Saki Miyu's first hair model.
- Prior to the March 15th, 2023 Build, Ui would sunbathe at the pool during Week 5 in order to make it harder for the player to kill Ritsuko Chikanari without a witness.
- She is the only non-rich girl who had previously sunbathed with Ritsuko.
- During Sonoko Sakanoue's investigation in Week 10, Ui provided her with testimony about Ryoba and was told to stay out of the investigation, as Sonoko worried that Ryoba might harm her.[10]
- She, along with Raimu Ichijo and Koharu Hinata, is one of the only female students in Classroom 1-1 in 1980s Mode who can't be sold to The Yakuza.
- Ui would stalk a classmate if she thought they were up to no good.[9]
- Ui became an investigative journalist and then later a news anchor.[11] This is likely because of her parents, who each once held those jobs.[9] She also has a positive, loving relationship with her parents.[12]
- Ui was first mentioned to have her own profile on the Characters site on October 21st, 2024.[13] She was later added on March 23rd, 2025.
- She is one of the few students, aside from rivals, delinquents, Rainbow 9, and Student Council Members, who remained largely unchanged following the October 21st, 2024 Update (1980s Revamp), likely to keep her distinctive appearance.
- She and Hanae Ono are the only students to use the "paranoid" walk, regardless of the school atmosphere.
- When asked if she worked for the Maid Cafe in 1980s mode, YandereDev said no.[14] He eventually changed his mind and said that she did work there for a brief period, but eventually stopped because she found it too weird and humiliating.[15]
