The Yakuza (first name unrevealed, last name Atatsuma)[2] is a character who can provide Ryoba Aishi with favors and assist her in eliminating her rivals in 1980s Mode.

Appearance[]

Yakuza10

The Yakuza (pictured to the left) as a teenager, with his younger brother, Togo Atatsuma

The Yakuza is a smartly dressed, serious looking adult man. He has slicked-back, shoulder-length black hair, matching eyes and a goatee. He sports a red, white, and black tattoo sleeve on both arms.

His outfit consists of a white button-up with rolled-up sleeves, which the collar is secured with a simple black tie. He sports a dark-colored waistcoat along with matching formal dark-colored slacks and polished black oxfords.

As a teenager, he had shorter hair. He wore a scrunched up white cloth around his head, a grey tank top with a red circular logo reading "Datsun", above knee-length jagged pants, and black flipflops. Below his knees are covered in numerous scratch marks, he holds one hand with a slightly warped black metal rod with a bandage wrapped around the handle, and Togo's hand.

Description[]

A man with connections to Japan's criminal underground. He sells various types of illegal contraband, ranging from narcotics to poison to explosives. He refuses to dilvuge his name, but the elaborate tattoos on his arms make it clear that he is affiliated with a yakuza clan.
For a price, he is willing to abduct a girl and ensure that she is never heard from again.
He is tight-lipped about the ultimate fates of his victims. Does he execute them quickly and painlessly? Does he harvest their organs before disposing of them? Does he sell them into slavery in another country? Or does he do something even more sinister? It's a mystery; he has no intention of revealing what happens to the people who "disappear" because of him.
Aside from selling contraband and performing abductions, there is one more service that he offers. He is aware that kidnapping a member of a rich family and demanding ransom money is a good way to make a lot of cash, so he is willing to pay for kidnapped victims.
The Yakuza has no interest in doing business with strangers. In order to make use of his services, the player would somehow need to earn his favor. Apparently, the only thing in the world that can cause him to display even the slightest flicker of emotion is his younger brother, who was a student who attended Akademi.

Background[]

According to YandereDev in Osana Progress and Yakuza Thoughts video, when the Yakuza and his younger brother, Togo Atatsuma, were young, they had a very difficult life. One parent was dead, while the other was unable to care for them. So the Yakuza had to assume the responsibility of taking care of himself, his younger brother and their sickly parent as well. His family needed money more than anything. Because conventional jobs weren't paying enough, the Yakuza turned to a life of crime to earn enough money to provide a good life for himself and Togo. This eventually led him to join the Yakuza. Primarily, he just wanted to make sure that his younger brother wouldn't have to struggle as much as he did. The last thing that the Yakuza wants is to see his little brother entering into a life of crime. The Yakuza probably discourages Togo from following his footsteps, but the delinquent refuses to change his ways.

Routine[]

The Yakuza appears at night within the town in a dark alley, leaning at the wall with his arms crossed, along with his two employees chatting each other.

If Ryoba attempts to enter the alleyway without completing Togo's task, the Yakuza will warn her to get out of the alleyway. However, if his brother is dead or missing, he will not appear in the alleyway.

Services[]

The Yakuza's services can be accessed after Ryoba has completed Togo Atatsuma's task. The player is presented with a menu that has 3 submenus, each one offering a different service.

Relationships[]

His Younger Brother[]

Main article: Togo Atatsuma
Yakuza11

The Yakuza and his brother in Osana Progress and Yakuza Thoughts.

Togo is the Yakuza's younger brother. The Yakuza will repay Togo's debt to Ryoba, should he need to.

The Yakuza deeply cares for his younger brother, who he had to raise alongside caring for his parents. The last thing that the yakuza wants is for his younger brother to struggle.[3]

Togo likely doesn't know that his brother is in the Yakuza and just thinks he's "cool". The Yakuza wishes for his brother to not live a life of crime and may only perform favors for the protagonist if she helps reform his brother, to ensure that his brother doesn't become like him.[3]

If Togo is killed, the Yakuza will no longer appear in the alleyway at town for the rest of the game.

In Mission Mode, Ryoba can kill the Yakuza's younger brother without any repercussions. This is because the Yakuza and Togo have fallen out and do not consider each other as family. The Yakuza feels nothing about Togo's death, since the latter is now a stranger to him.[4]

Ryoba Aishi[]

Main article: Ryoba Aishi

While the Yakuza and his younger brother remember Ryoba, they have not kept in contact with her.[5]

Canonically, Ryoba took Togo's task on the first week.[6]

Ryoba did make an impression on the Yakuza, but it was not because she did business with him frequently, but rather appearing in court in national tv.[7]

Trivia[]

  • As a specified character, he was introduced in the video, "Yakuza in Yandere Simulator".
  • As of the October 17th 2019 build, he made his first appearance in game within the town in a dark alley.
  • As of October 10, 2021 Build, he can no longer be found at the street in Ayano Aishi's time period (202X Mode) as he is meant to be a character in 1980s Mode.
  • He is currently one of the few characters in 1980s Mode who is fully voiced.[8]
  • Any student who has been kidnapped will refuse to follow Ryoba Aishi the following days.
  • Even after you ransom a club student, the club will still close for the rest of the game due to having less than 5 members for one day.
    • This makes the player decide whether the money is worth the removal of that club's benefits.
    • To not close the club, the player can join that club before they ransom the student to stop the club from closing, but quitting the club will close the benefit of that club.
  • When Ryoba meets the Yakuza, he begins to say that he wants her to do something regarding Togo, but cuts himself off. He was going to ask Ryoba to watch over his little brother and make sure that he doesn't get in trouble and doesn't get too involved in crime. However, he hates saying anything too emotional or sentimental or exposing his worries and vulnerabilities to others, so he decided to just cut himself off and not say anything at all, according to YandereDev.[9]

Quotes[]

Doing Business With Him[]

Turn around and walk away!...unless you wanna get hurt...

— The Yakuza if the player attempted to enter the alleyway without completing Togo's task.

I'm not going to give you my name, and you're not going to give me yours. The less we know about each other, the better. As soon as we're done here, you're going to forget my face, and forget that this conversation ever happened. Got it?. My brother owes you a debt that he could never repay. I'm grateful that you pulled his ass out of the fire. But...that doesn't make us friends. The less debts a man owes, the better...and I don't want my brother to owe anything to anyone. So, I'm here to make things square between you and him. This is strictly business...so let's cut to the chase. I've brought some things with me that you might be interested in. Hurry up and pick the one that you want.

— Talking to the Yakuza for the first time.

Tch...don't take forever to make up your mind. I might owe you, but my patience has limits.

— The Yakuza if Ryoba decides to pick her favour on another day.

Let's hear it, then.

— The Yakuza if Ryoba comes back to claim her favour.

There. You got what you wanted. With this, my brother's debt is cleared. Do we have an understanding?. Good. And if you're smart...this will be the last time you even *talk* to someone like me. ...just...one thing. About my brother...I want you t...nevermind. Forget I said anything.

— The Yakuza after the player has chosen an illegal item.

I thought I'd made myself clear. I only owed you *one* favor, and we're square now. You shouldn't get involved with people like me. Hmph. If you're actually serious about this, you're going to need some pretty deep pockets. We'll see about that. Here's the menu. And no, the prices are *not* up for negotiation.

— The Yakuza dialogue if Ryoba talks to him again.

...you serious? Not what I was expecting to hear. You DO know what you're asking for, right? This isn't exactly something you can undo. From the look on your face. I can tell that you're not joking. I'm going to warn you that what you're asking for is pretty expensive. With that out of the way... let's talk business. Give me a name and a face.

— The Yakuza talking to Ryoba about the abduction.

That's all the info I need. By the end of the day, your 'problem' will be gone. I'll have to make this quick. I could get in trouble just for being here. There's an...unspoken rule to stay out of this territory. If you're lucky, you'll never find out.

— The Yakuza if the player picks a rival to be abducted.

Better not be a waste of my time. ...I'm listening. (scoff) ...didn't see that one coming. Do you even realize what you're saying? Do you have any idea how risky that would be?. ...but, if you could actually pull it off...hmm. It certainly would be lucrative... (sigh) I don't know why I'm sticking my neck out like this, but...alright. I'm in.

— The Yakuza talking to Ryoba about the ransom.

That's what you want?

— The Yakuza making sure to confirm the player's choice if the player picks a rival, or illegal item.

Change your mind, huh?

— The Yakuza if the player is about to purchase an illegal item, abduction or kidnapped victim but backs out.

Consider it done.

— The Yakuza if an illegal item is picked.

Hmm...it's you.
You sure nobody followed you, right?
I don't like doing business around here.

— The Yakuza when Ryoba interacts with him in the alleyway for a third time, or starting up the menu for Mission Mode

Who needs to disappear?

— The Yakuza if "Design Mission" is selected.

Which one?

— The Yakuza if "Multi Mission" is selected.

Don't get caught.

— The Yakuza when Ryoba exits the options menu or starts her mission.

Pleasure doing business.

— The Yakuza when Ryoba purchases an illegal item or finishes her Mission.

Miscellaneous[]

I can't believe she got caught...sloppy. She better not say anything about me...

— Hypothetical reaction from the Yakuza when Ryoba went to trial.[10]

Who is this?
I'm retired. How did you get this number?
Must have been a long time ago.
Psh. You expect me to remember a customer from over 3 decades ago?
Mother? I rarely do business with...wait. It couldn't be...
...tch. It wouldn't be cheap. Think your pockets are deep enough?

— Hypothetical dialogue from the Yakuza finding out about Ryoba's daughter.[11]
