SNAP is the 5th option the player has upon receiving a "Heartbroken" Game Over.

Gameplay[]

"Snapping" is an Aishi's response to completely losing their Senpai. In this state, they don't feel pain. The only goal is to eliminate their Senpai and themselves, as they don't see a reason to live anymore. Every Aishi can SNAP and they do so 90% of the time they think they've lost their Senpai forever. The only way to prevent an Aishi from murdering their Senpai after they snapped is to kill them.[1]

Snap2

If the player selects this option, the background music will stop. Every click afterward causes the protagonist to flinch, the camera to zoom in closer, and a crack to appear on the screen. After enough clicks, the screen shatters completely, revealing the now black and red surroundings. The protagonist will look up, her eyes now entirely devoid of light, and slowly get up, leaned over. All interface elements are gone, as time, reputation, and sanity are no longer relevant. The player will be given control, allowing the protagonist to walk. However, running will be replaced with teleporting.

The aesthetic of SNAP Mode is a broken girl slowly marching towards her death. The ability to run would ruin this aesthetic, so Yandere-chan can't run in SNAP Mode.

The first goal of the protagonist is to find any small weapon if she doesn't have one already so she can kill Senpai. In this state, if she approaches any student or teacher, she will instantly brutally kill them with her hands and feet. The animation will speed up slightly will every kill. Other students will have slowed-down, distorted voices, turn into silhouettes, and permanently freeze in place waiting for the player to kill them. If the protagonist has a weapon already but doesn't head back, the screen will flash static, teleporting her to Senpai. Once the protagonist walks within range of Senpai, she will kill him with a stab through the heart, regardless of player input.

If I can't have you, no one can.

Once Senpai is dead, the protagonist has nothing to live for anymore and will die no matter what the player does. The protagonist will slowly lift up the knife and stab herself in the throat. The player can mash the prompted button to make it happen earlier. Once she stabs herself, the screen turns bright red for 5 seconds before the game resets to the start of the day.

Trivia[]

  • SNAP Mode has been planned from the very early stages of the development. However, it was implemented only on March 31st 2020 Build.
  • In the video revealing this mode, the developer mentioned that there might be more type of game overs where this mode would be avaliable: apprehended, arrested, expelled, low reputation, and losing Senpai. However, he had expressed concerns that some of them would be too edgy, and mentioned that he won't consider implementing them until much later in the development as it would require a lot of new assets and animations.[2]
  • Previously, it was possible to exit SNAP Mode and receive genocide ending by using this mode after Ayano kills all of the students in SNAP Mode. As of May 7th 2020 Build, it's no longer possible to get genocide ending if this mode was used.
  • The font that shows the objectives in SNAP Mode is Levi Brush in uppercase and lowercase. It's the same font used for the large red text on the Game Over screen.
  • After the protagonist stabs herself in the throat, there is an extra part to the animation, in which she pulls her neck back off the blade, then bobs back and forth. The animation isn't visible in normal gameplay, as the red screen immediately follows her death.[3] This can be seen in cinematic mode though.
  • In one of Druelbozo's Twitch streams, he compared this mode to having a Golden Tanooki Suit from Super Mario 3D Land, which is given to help the player with the game if they die too many times.
  • If Aishi entered the SNAP state mistakenly believing that she had no chance of winning Senpai's love, then he can bring her back to sanity by reciprocating her feelings.[4]
