Rival-chan Gallery Illustrations
Rival-chan was a generic representation of a rival used mainly in debug builds.
Appearance[]
Rival-chan was slightly shorter than the rest of the characters of the game, wore the same school uniform as the rest of the students, and black shoes with loose white socks; however, on the title screen, she's shown with white socks instead.
She had flushed cheeks, orange-amber eyes, and pale skin. Her yellow hair was worn in two slightly curled pigtails. To keep her hair up, she wore ruffled pink and white polka-dotted scrunchies and a purple ribbon. In the original sprite arts visible in the Content Checklist, Rival-chan had blue eyes and wore pink scrunchies that flaired out like a bow tie instead.
Description[]
One of the animations.
Rival-chan's model was used as Osana Najimi's design in 2014 intro cutscene; however, Osana as a rival got a completely different design later as Rival-chan "didn't look tsundere enough".[1] As a separate character, Rival-chan first implemented to test the rival outline in Yandere Vision in February 1st, 2015 build. She also had no routine, and the only functionality aside being highlighted she had was cycling through several animations when pressing Spacebar, which was removed when Yandere Simulator began to run in Unity 2017. Because she wasn't a "real" student, Info-chan couldn't recognize her as a student and the player's actions were not affecting her. The players attempting to kill her to no avail gave her a nickname "Indestructible rival"; this nickname and Rival-chan's appearance were eventually given to Raibaru Fumetsu.

Rival-chan was also shown as a rival on eliminations sprite-arts, but on August 18th, 2024 build, she was replaced with Osana and Raibaru. Currently, she only appears on the title screen if Osana became a victim of murder-suicide. She also appeared in the spin-off game Yandere Clicker as "Imouto" option, described as "A kawaii Imouto who will stab Senpai for you"; however, she was not meant to be Taro's sister.[2] She was also featured in several videos as a generic representation of a rival, and was featured in It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Murder, Indestructible Rival, and its sequel, Indestructible Rival 2, as one of the main characters.
Trivia[]
- She was the only unprogrammed NPC whose uniform would change according to the player's choices.
- Her 3D model is available on the Unity Asset store and is named Satomi Makise.
- From the September 1st, 2017 Build to the April 2nd, 2018 Build, her hairstyle was available under ID 21 by changing JSON files. The reason why her hairstyle was added into the game files, JSON, and Pose Mode was because a fan wanted to pose her.[3]
- She can still be enabled via kgftbz's PoseMod by loading a cutscene with the variable
EnableGameObject:RivalChan:true. - The protagonist can use her hairstyle if the player activates Easter Eggs and presses H to cycle through different hairstyles.
- She was disabled and re-enabled several times during development: first in the July 1st, 2019 build and restored on July 3rd, then re-disabled on July 18th, because Raibaru Fumetsu was in development. She was then restored in the June 15th, 2020 build and disabled permanently on July 1st.
