Ritsuko Chikanari is the fifth rival and one of the female students who attended Akademi in 1980s Mode. Following the game's storyline, she was Ryoba's sixth rival.
Appearance[]
Ritsuko has extremely pale skin and fluffy, shoulder-length layered dark blue hair with straight bangs and curly sideburns. She has red eyes and wears red nail polish.
She wears the default 1980s uniform with black tights and a large white bow on a white headband, which has a small heart in the middle of the bow.
Her black tights represent her extreme world view which causes her to not care if a poor person suffers a tragedy or even dies.[2]
Personality[]
Ritsuko is a snobby rich girl from one of Japan's wealthiest families. Her father is the founder and CEO of Chikanari Heavy Industries, which is known for supplying Saikou Corp with many of the materials needed for their electronic products.
It's an 'open secret' that she has absolutely no intention whatsoever of getting a proper education at Akademi, and is only attending the school in order to attain the prestigious title of being an Akademi graduate.
She spends her days sunbathing at the school pool instead of studying. Her 'I don't care what anyone thinks' attitude has earned her a degree of respect from her peers, and a small number of girls are now beginning to act exactly like her, sunbathing at the pool alongside her.
A conceited girl from one of Japan's wealthiest families. Spends her days sunbathing at the school pool instead of studying.
Among the Personas that are currently implemented in the game, Ritsuko is Lovestruck. If she witnesses a murder, she will run to Jokichi Yudasei and inform him that Ryoba Aishi is a murderer, causing an automatic Game Over. If she encounters a corpse, she will run to Jokichi and tell him there's a murderer on campus; they will then run out of school and call the Police. She is incapable of fighting back against murderers.
Ritsuko will become a Loner on subsequent weeks if she is eliminated peacefully and still attends Akademi.
She is very demanding and does whatever she wants. If the Pool Sign is set up, she will ignore it and comment on how she can't understand why people would listen to the sign.
Ritsuko comes from the Chikanari Family, a well known family known for their construction company, Chikanari Heavy Industries. Her father, Kiyoshi, spoiled her to the point of Ritsuko sharing a resemblance of a "caricature of an entitled rich brat."[3] According to the Akademi Daily during her Week, her intelligence is shown to be extremely poor, failing her entrance exams. This resulted in her father bribing the headmaster of Akademi to let his daughter enroll.
Introduction[]
In the introduction cutscene after the elimination of the fourth rival, Ritsuko's silhouette is shown as Ryoba mentions that someone new is in love with her Senpai.
Like an insect buzzing around a meal that was left unattended... Another pest has begun to orbit around my Senpai. The latest girl comes from one of Japan's wealthiest families. She looks down on anyone with less money than her... Which, of course, means that she looks down on nearly everyone. I can tell that she doesn't see my Senpai as an equal... It would be more accurate to say that she wants to keep him as a "pet". I'd like to say that my Senpai has enough sense to avoid getting involved with her... But the promise of a cozy life in the lap of luxury might be too tempting for him. Just to make sure that he doesn't make the wrong decision... I'll have to remove the option from his life altogether. It looks like the only reason she enrolled in Akademi was for the prestige... She has no intention of studying at all. She spends all day sunbathing at the pool. You know... Every year... A lot of unfortunate accidents happen around pools... It would be such a shame if she fell asleep and drowned...
Routine[]
At 7:05 AM, Ritsuko enters the school grounds and heads to her locker to change from her outdoor shoes to her indoor shoes. At 7:10 AM, she drops off her bag by her desk in Classroom 2-2, walks to the Shower Room, changes into her swimsuit and heads to the Swimming Pool to sunbathe at 7:15 AM. At 8:00 AM, she walks to Classroom 2-2 and sits at her desk. She starts her morning classes at 8:30 AM.
At 1:00 PM, she goes to the Student Council Room to eat her lunch alongside Fuyumi Tachiki, Chizuru Yamaguchi and Itsumi Yuuki (During Mission Mode, she'll have lunch outside of the Student Council Room). The reason as to why Ritsuko eats in the Student Council room is because she does not imagine herself to eat "among 'the common people'". She insists on eating somewhere with respectable décor.[4] She walks back to class at 1:30 PM. At 3:30 PM, she participates in cleaning time, cleaning the Cafeteria. At 4:00 PM, she heads to back to the pool to sunbathe until 5:15 PM, where she changes back to her uniform. At 5:30 PM, she heads to her locker to change her shoes and walks out of school.
Events[]
- Monday
At 7:00 AM, Ritsuko gives Jokichi a bento, claiming her "foolish chef" made it. Jokichi triues to refuse since he already brought his own, but Ritsuko forces him to take the "world class cuisine". Then, she will ask Jokichi to meet her at 5:15 PM and "praise it's flavor", which he will accept. At 5:15 PM, Jokichi and Ritsuko meet outside the gate and Ritsuko asks how the bento was. If the bento wasn't poisoned with an emetic poison, Jokichi says he enjoyed it and Ritsuko tells him to praise her as they walk home together. If the bento was poisoned, Jokichi says that the bento made him sick and they walk home separately.
- Tuesday
At 7:00 AM, Jokichi gives Ritsuko a book she had asked about and she puts it in her bookbag. They then decide to meet at 5:15 PM so she can return the book. At 5:15 PM, Jokichi and Ritsuko meet outside the gate and Jokichi asks her what she thought of it. If the book wasn't stolen, Ritsuko says she enjoyed it and gives it back as she's planning the nearest bookstore that has a copy; they then walk home together. If the book was stolen, Ritsuko excitedly says she lost it and thus will buy a replacement, only for Jokichi to tell her that the book was a gift and such things can't be bought with money, leaving a shocked Ritsuko to walk home alone.
- Wednesday
At 7:00 AM, Ritsuko tells Jokichi she has a gift for him which she'll give to him at lunchtime. She leaves the gift on her desk when she goes to drop off her bag. At 1:00PM, Ritsuko and Jokichi meet on the Rooftop where she gives him the gift box. If the contents weren't replaced with contraband, the box will filled with money, only for Ritsuko to take it back as she only wanted to see his reaction; they then eat lunch together. If the contents were replaced, Jokichi will refuse the gift, leaving a baffled Ritsuko to eat lunch alone.
- Thursday
At 7:00 AM, Ritsuko and Jokichi talk about a movie they're planning to see after school. During this conversation, Ritsuko yawns and Jokichi suggests she take a nap after cleaning time so she doesn't sleep through the movie. At 4:00 PM, she takes a nap in the Infirmary. If her bento wasn't poisoned with a Sedative, Ritsuko meets Jokichi at the gate at 5:15 PM and they leave school to see the movie. If her bento was poisoned, Jokichi will get impatient and go home at 5:55 PM.
- Friday
At 7:00 AM, Ritsuko talks to Jokichi. During this conversation, Jokichi will tell her that he is worried about a test that they will have before lunch. Unfortunately, he lost all of the notes he took and was unable to study before the test. Ritsuko "copies her notes" for him and leaves them on his desk. At 1:00 PM, Ritsuko and Jokichi will meet on the roof and she will ask him if the notes helped. If the notes weren't sabotaged, Jokichi says he aced the test and they eat lunch together. If the notes were sabotaged, Jokichi says the notes didn't help him at all and Ristuko figures that she grabbed the wrong answer sheet and they eat lunch separately.
At 5:00 PM, Ritsuko will go to Jokichi's locker and leave a note asking him to meet her under the cherry tree behind the school. If Ryoba Aishi matchmakes her, she will go to Okimoto Furukawa's locker instead. Ritsuko will then run to the Confession Tree and wait for either Jokichi or Okimoto. She will then confess her love to him. If she confesses to Jokichi, he will either accept her feelings or reject them. If she confesses to Okimoto, he will accept her feelings.
Relationships[]
Jokichi Yudasei[]
- Main article: Jokichi Yudasei
In the fifth week of 1980s mode, Ritsuko 'befriends' Jokichi and develops feelings for him. Canonically however, she is killed before she could confess.
If Jokichi ended up dating Ritsuko, he would be her "pet" - but he would also live a very easy life in the lap of luxury.[5]
Okimoto Furukawa[]
- Main article: Okimoto Furukawa
Ritsuko's suitor is Okimoto, and Ryoba can matchmake her with him.
Her parents[]
Ritsuko admires both of her parents and thinks of both of them as hard workers because of her belief that rich people are better than normal people.
Her death caused the relationship of her parents between Saikou Corp to be greatly strained, but because their companies both completely rely on one another, they could not afford to become enemies over her death. Thus, her parents cared more for their company than their daughter.[6]
Task[]
- Main article: Tasks
"Ritsuko Chikanari is incapable of respecting anyone who lacks an abundance of wealth. In order to earn her respect, you must project the appearance of an extremely wealthy young woman by giving her $1,000."
The player has to have at least $500 already in order to access Ritsuko's task.
Topics[]
The Conversational Topics that Ritsuko has opinions on are as follows:

Canon Elimination[]
Ritsuko's canon elimination is Drowning.
- The player can do this all on Monday.
- Thre options to obtain a sedative include buying Sleeping Pills from the Convenience Store, steal sedatives from the medicine cabinet in the Infirmary without being spotted by the nurse, or crafting chloroform and acetone in the Science Lab with a level 3 rank in chemistry.
- In the morning, go to the pump room underneath the swimming pool, grab the "Pools Closed" sign and place it at the top of the steps of the swimming pool.
- To drop the sign, the player can crouch, click "1" on the keyboard, or equip another item from their inventory. The pool sign will neatly arrange itself on the top of the stairs.
- Go to Ritsuko's bookbag at her desk (Class 2-2) and poison her Bento.
- Her teacher, Otome Nagasako, would be in this classroom grading papers. The player should use a distraction of any kind to get the teacher's view away from Ritsuko's bookbag.
- After school, go to the pool and wait for Ritsuko. After she lays down, when she closes her eyes, click "E" to push her into the pool.
Alternate Eliminations[]
The player is given access to S+ rank as long as she is drowned, regardless of whether or not she is drowned while sunbathing or not.
- Option 1 : Use rat poison to poison her bento. At lunchtime, drown her in the bathroom near the classrooms.
- Option 2 : The player may leave a note in Ritsuko's locker about the "Evil Photographer" in the Locker Room. The player should select the "near the fountain" as the location in the note. When she arrives at the fountain, the player has the option to drown her.
Trivia[]
- Ritsuko's birthday is on May 27th.[7]
- Her name, Ritsuko (律子), means "law child".
- Her family name, "Chikanari", means "near/early" (chika, 近) and "to attain" (naru/nari, 成).
- Her favorite hobby is skiing because she believes that only rich people can afford it.[6]
- She believes rich people are better than normal people because they work harder, so she admires both of her parents and thinks of both of them as hard workers.[6]

- She prefers to eat food that she associates with "being rich". An example of this is that she has a belief that only rich people can afford to eat lobster, so she enjoys eating lobster. The taste doesn't matter to her; only the "prestige" of eating food that she believes is expensive.[6]
- She won't accept anything that's inexpensive in her mouth, like a bag of chips.
- Her favorite color is blue.[6]
- According to her diary, Ritsuko once fell for a scam and gave away most of her parent's money to a con artist.
- Ritsuko's canon elimination is the only elimination where the player is unable to dispose of her body as it cannot be retrieved once it enters the pool.
- If she wasn't killed in the events of 1980s Mode, she would have become the president of her parent's company. But she would have let others run it for her.[8]
- She is the only rich girl who can't be sold to the Yakuza. YandereDev states that the Yakuza are afraid of an organization that operates in Buraza Town. For that reason, the Yakuza doesn't want to ask for any harm to come to Ritsuko.[9]
- She is the only rival who doesn't ask Ryoba for her phone number nor tell her that she can't handle going to the insane asylum. This is because she looks down on her and thinks Ryoba should be doing the work for her.

- As of the May 15th, 2023 build, she won't respond to any dropped weapons.

- Ritsuko is afraid of bugs.[12]

Quotes[]
...hmm? And what, pray tell, do YOU want? Ugh...please, don't speak to me - in fact, don't even breathe the same air as me - until you can bring at least $500 at school without batting an eye.
Ugh! How many times do I have to say it? I have absolutely no interest in associating with anyone who is not as...wait. Is that...money I smell?
*Sniff, sniff* ...oh, my goodness! Unless my nose deceives me...you're carrying at least $500 with you! But...how can I really know that you're affluent enough to be worthy of my precious time?
I hereby propose a challenge: Give me $1,000. Yes, that's right...hand it over. If you truly are rich, then parting with that sum of money will be of no consequence to you. Well, what do you say?
Oh? You accept? Very well, then! In that case, I shall wait with bated breath for you to accrue and deliver the henceforth agreed-upon sum of money, in cash. Toodle-loo! ...and don't keep me waiting.
Ha. I knew that you were merely pretending to be rich. Now, begone, peasant.
Ah! Money! For me? Give it here! Ha ha ha ha ha! MONEY! ...friends? Yes, yes, we're friends now, and whatnot. ...now then, back to more important matters. Ahem...MONEY!
Excuse me?! For future reference, you do NOT have permission to touch my belongings - EVER. ...but...I...do need some help...
There's an abandoned insane asylum just outside of town. Spending a night there is a popular "test of courage."
A simple test of courage should be easy for one such as myself, so...I decided to go to the asylum. But, well...
In the asylum, I was confronted by a man with a knife. I ran from him, but I got cornered in a room with only one exit.
He blocked the doorway and told me...to strip my clothing off. I was terrified of losing my life, so...I did as I was told.
He didn't lay a hand on me...but he took out a camera and...took a bunch of pictures of me...
Actually, he had a big duffle bag with him. At one point, I saw what was inside...a bunch of photographs of other girls.
Ugh, I bet that creep is the one who started the rumor about the asylum being a good place for a "test of courage..."
I wonder how many other girls have already been victimized in the same way that I was...
Eventually, I saw an opportunity to escape, so I grabbed my clothes and ran away. I still have nightmares about it...
Um?! Hello?! Excuse me?! Is there a brain in your head?! If the police catch him, they'll see those photos of me!!
Clearly, the man wants to sell those photos. I should simply offer to buy them from him myself, but...well...
A bunch of homeless people and drug addicts are squatting in the asylum right now. It's become a real dangerous place...
Good! There's no reason why I should be risking my life out there. That's what people like YOU are for.
Here, I'll give you my phone number so that you can call me when you're done.
Well, don't just stand there - get moving!
This sign can't stop me, because I don't care.
I can't believe anyone would let a stupid sign stop them from sunbathing...
How weird. But, frankly, I don't care.
I refuse to put something that inexpensive in my mouth!
Bad timing. As you can see, I'm in a swimsuit right now. Maybe later.
Senpai! There is a matter I must discuss with you!
My foolish chef made an extra meal this morning. What a blunder!
I brought it to school so that you may have it. Here, take it now.
Silence! This is world-class cuisine! You will take it! I insist!
Ugh...fine. At 5:15 PM, meet me here, so you can praise the way it tasted.
Would it kill you to sound a little more grateful? Hmph!
Senpai! I anticipate that the bento was to your liking?
As expected. Now, you may begin saying words of praise.
No, you dolt! I'm not talking about the meal!
I'm waiting for you to start praising me!
Honestly...you should be overflowing with gratitude right now!
Accompany me as I walk home, and praise my generosity along the way.
Excellent. Then, let us be off! Posthaste!
Hmm? Speak up! Express yourself clearly!
What? No! Childish pranks are far beneath me!
...WHAT? Ew! That's disgusting! Ew, ew, ew!
Perhaps...common folk simply have inferior stomachs...?...
Senpai! I trust that you have procured the book I requested?
Excellent! It is good to know that you can be reliable. Sometimes.
Most pleasing. I shall read it at lunchtime!
I understand that this is a temporary rental and not a gift.
I am unaccustomed to such things. When exactly should I return it?
Understood. I will have to read it hastily, then...
It was quite intriguing! I rather enjoyed reading it!
I will buy the nearest bookstore that carries it!
No. I mean I'll just buy the nearest bookstore.
Ugh, sometimes I forget how the less fortunate live their lives...
Enough of that subject. Senpai! Walk me home. Now.
Silence! I'll have none of that. We shall depart now.
Senpai! I have some good news!
That book you lent me? It's gone now! I lost it!
This means that I shall be buying you a new one! Rejoice!
Did you not hear me? I said: I will buy you a new one!
Huh...huh? Things that money...can't buy? But...but...Senpai! Wait!
Senpai! I require your attention immediately!
I have brought something to school that I wish to show you...
...however, there are too many eyes here. I would prefer to show you in private.
There is nothing sketchy about it! Now, listen closely to my instructions.
You will meet me on the school rooftop at lunchtime. Do not be late.
Surely, you can keep a simple appointment, yes?
Senpai! Open this box! Open it now. I want to see your reaction!
Haha! Oh, the look on your face! It's absolutely priceless!
Honestly, I just wanted to see how you would react to seeing all that cash!
What?! No! Of course not! Give it back! You've stared at it long enough!
...hmm? Drat! I was hoping for a stronger reaction.
...not...interested?! But...how can that possibly be?!
...wh...what?! But...but, this stuff is what makes the world go around!
...well, I...hmph! HMPH, I say!
Senpai! Clear your schedule. You are going to accompany me to see a film tonight.
Silence! I won't tolerate any back-talk. Meet me here at 5:15 PM. Understood?
Good. I will take my leave now. Be sure not too...(Yawn)
...ugh...how...uncouth of me...you did NOT see that, understood?
Nap?! Like a lazy servant who is slacking on the job?! Are you serious?!
Although...a nap at cleaning time may be beneficial...
Perhaps I shall. After all, it's not like I'll oversleep or anything like that!
Senpai! I'm glad you're capable of keeping an appointment.
Yes! Now put one foot in front of the other and start walking!
Senpai! I demand your attention immediately! I need...wait...is something wrong?
Ugh...the problems of poor people...
I already have the answer sh - I mean...I have already taken extensive notes.
I'll go...copy my notes...and put them on your desk.
Ugh...you'd better be grateful to me, after you've inconvenienced me like this...
I insist that you must meet me on the roof at lunchtime and then tell me if my notes helped you!
Senpai! The notes I left for you were flawless. I assume you passed with flying colors?
Hmph! As expected, since you were using MY notes, after all.
Don't get used to it! I won't always be there to bail you out!...but...you're welcome.
...what?! But, I literally gave the answer sh - uh, I mean...what?!
That can't be! Unless I...grabbed the wrong sheet by accident...
...w-well, Senpai, clearly, this must be some sort of mistake on YOUR end.
I most certainly did not make ANY mistakes when copying my notes, so...uh...
...if you expect an apology, you are sorely mistaken! I have done no wrong!
Where did you get this? It looks like it cost you less than 500 yen. Come back when you can give me a bouquet of Shenzhen Nongke Orchids!
