Reputation is a key element in Yandere Simulator that determines what types of interactions the protagonist can have with other students.
The reputation meter can currently be found on the bottom-left of the HUD. YandereDev plans to add more to the feature, such as having students let their guard down around the protagonist when her reputation is high, and being nervous around her when it is low.[1] Currently, reputation will increase or decrease during gossiping periods, depending on the protagonist's previous actions around other students.
Students will have three gossiping periods each day: before morning classes, during lunch time, and after they go home using social media.
The arrow icon that hovers over the reputation meter shows where her reputation will be after the next gossiping period. The pinkish bar inside the reputation meter shows where her reputation currently is. A student that has witnessed her do something suspicious, like carry a weapon, won't be able to tell all of their friends immediately; this is why the protagonist's reputation won't change until after a gossiping period.[2]
Each student has a reputation meter as well, and they each have their own default reputation from the start of the game. If the protagonist takes a picture of a student with her phone and sends it to Info-chan, the Student Info screen will display their reputation, as well as a graph that represents how much a student is Liked, Respected, and Feared. The player can lower other students' reputations by gossiping about them.
Because smartphones and social media do not exist in 1980s Mode,[3] students’ reputations are instead displayed on a notepad, and the ability to gossip via social media is disabled.
Reputation Meter[]
Neutral Reputation[]
The protagonist will start the game with a neutral reputation. She will have no buffs. Students will be friendly but typically will not do favors for her, and she will be ignored for the most part.
Good Reputation[]
Having a good reputation boosts the effect of the protagonist's gossip, and her reputation will fall by less if she is seen doing suspicious actions.
- YandereDev has considered the idea that if the protagonist has a very good reputation, then people will pay attention to her, follow her around, or try to be her best friend.[4] This may be a disadvantage though, because if she's too popular, she'll attract stalkers. Since they'll constantly follow her, the player wouldn't be able to get away with crimes.[5]
- The protagonist needs to be friends with a student or have a high Seduction stat for them to follow her, but some students won't follow you unless you have a high reputation.
- This is the requirements for Osana Najimi and the 1980s rivals in order for them to follow the protagonist, since she doesn't trust her so easily if her reputation was low or average.
- There is a possibility that, in later builds, if School Atmosphere is low, having a high reputation would be required for students to follow the protagonist.[6]
Bad Reputation[]
A bad reputation results from students seeing the protagonist doing too many suspicious things. She will receive more reputation penalties for her actions when she has a bad reputation.
- Students will not offer the protagonist tasks if her reputation is bad, which will make it harder for her to befriend other students. Some elimination methods may also not be available, as they require a good reputation.
- The protagonist cannot gossip about other students if her reputation is low enough.
- If reputation points are lost, the protagonist can get half of them back by apologizing. Wearing the Kawaii Moe Shimapan Panties will give her 75% of points back when apologizing.
- Reputation penalties are harsher when School Atmosphere is low.
- Senpai will not accept the protagonist's love confession if her reputation is below -100, leading to an automatic Game Over.[7]
If the protagonist's reputation drops below -100 and she attempts to go to class, or waits until classtime, a cutscene of students laughing at her will play before she gets a Senpai Lost Game Over.
In the future, it's possible that delinquents will not talk to the protagonist if she has a neutral or high reputation. If she has a low reputation, they will see her as one of them, thus giving her the ability to talk to them. She might be able to befriend them and ask them to do favors, which may unlock new ways to dispose of rivals.[8] The player must also have a low reputation in order to join the delinquents as a “club” member.
NPC Reputation[]
Reputation for NPCs is currently calculated by how much a student is liked, feared, and respected, with a number assigned to each part. Individual parts can be seen with a simple graph on the student's Info page.
- The student's reputation is calculated using this formula: (Liked + Feared + Respected) / 3
Rivals[]
- Main article: Rivals
Rivals also have a reputation meter. If a rival's reputation level drops to -100, the rival will withdraw from Akademi. If it reaches -150, the rival will commit suicide in a cutscene. Senpai will reject any rival who confesses to him with a reputation below -100.
Mida Rana and Muja Kina will not have a reputation stat but will instead have a 'job performance' stat which will be lowered in a way other than gossip.[9]
Students[]
All students have their own individual reputation meter, and each student is in the Neutral, High, or Low reputation category.
Just like rivals, students will also withdraw from Akademi if their reputation drops to -100. They will also end their life if their reputation is -150, but there will be no cutscene.
If a student with the Fragile persona has their reputation lowered to the point where they become the target for bullying, Ayano will be able to initiate a murder-suicide with a student of her choosing, by convincing the fragile student that said student is the one who caused the bullying. This only works for Horuda Puresu so far.
Gaining Reputation[]
The protagonist is able to increase their reputation based on how they interact with fellow students. However, a gossiping period must pass before her reputation bar will move.
Socializing with Students[]
This will increase reputation by one point per successful interaction. However; there are exceptions, such as students the player already socialized with, the Student Council, with whom it is impossible to socialize and The Delinquents, because their interactions do not affect the protagonist reputation.
If the player has enough Seduction level, it will increase her reputation by two points (For this to have an effect on male students, the player must have at least Level 2, and for female students, Level 5). Wearing the Sweet Strawberry Panties increases the reputation points she gains when socializing with students by two points, or three points if the panties and Seduction are combined. If the protagonist is socializing with a friend, she will gain another two points. It's possible to earn several dozens of points each day, depending on the skills.
Making Food[]
If the protagonist is in the Cooking Club, she will be able to make food and pass it out to students, with the exception of Student Council members and the delinquents.
There are nine octopus hotdogs on the plate, which nine students can eat. Passing one to a student will raise her reputation by 1 point per hotdog, raising the protagonist's reputation 9 points per tray.
Doing tasks[]
the protagonist will gain one point for every task they complete, and when doing so, it enables the "ask a favor" option. There is nothing stopping the player from accomplishing the task of a normal student, however; this system is different with rivals. It's necessary to have a certain amount of reputation beforehand or a trait such as being part of a club for them to trust the player. Doing a task automatically adds to the "Friendship bar" 50 points. This doesn't apply when doing the task of a delinquent. You can't do a task from a Student Council.
Light Music Club Practicing Minigame[]
If the player plays a rhythm minigame for the Light Music Club, the player's reputation will increase to a greater amount depending on how well the player had played the minigame. The maximum amount is 100 reputation points.
The minigame cannot be accessed if at least one member of the club is dead or missing
Writing a Newspaper[]
In 1980s Mode, it is possible for Ryoba to write a newspaper to increase her reputation if she is in the Newspaper Club.
Internet[]
It may be possible to say positive things about students on the Internet from the protagonist's computer to increase her reputation. YandereDev is currently considering this idea.[10]
Losing Reputation[]
NOTE: Wearing a mask will not affect the protagonist reputation when doing suspicious actions. Students that catch the protagonist in the following states — with the exception of Senpai, who will give the "Heartbroken" Game Over — will damage her reputation after a gossiping period has passed.
Gossiping About a Student[]
When gossiping about other student, not only it decreases their reputation, but it decreases the reputation of the player by two points (if the student hates gossip) or one point (if the student is neutral towards gossip) as well. However, gossiping about a student with a Bully or anyone who likes gossip does not have any negative effect on the player's reputation.
Visibly Armed[]
Decreases reputation by ten points if School Atmosphere is high, fifteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and twenty points if School Atmosphere is low.
If the player has acquired Seduction level 3, it will decrease her reputation by eight points if School Atmosphere is high, thirteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and eighteen points if School Atmosphere is low. This changes when Seduction is raised higher.
Visibly Insane[]
Decreases reputation by ten points if School Atmosphere is high, fifteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and twenty points if School Atmosphere is low.
If the player has acquired Seduction level 3, it will decrease her reputation by eight points if School Atmosphere is high, thirteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, eighteen points if School Atmosphere is low, but only when a male student is the witness. When Seduction is at Level 5, the same applies to female students.
Laughing Insanely[]
Decreases reputation by ten points if School Atmosphere is high, fifteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and twenty points when School Atmosphere is low.
If the player's Seduction level is Rank 3, it will decrease her reputation by eight points if School Atmosphere is high, thirteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and eighteen points if School Atmosphere is low, and a male student is the witness. When Seduction is at Level 5, the same applies to female students.
Crouching[]
Decreases reputation by ten points if School Atmosphere is high, fifteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and twenty points when School Atmosphere is low.
If the player's Seduction level is Rank 3, it will decrease her reputation by eight points if School Atmosphere is high, thirteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and eighteen points if School Atmosphere is low, and a male student is the witness. When Seduction is at Level 5, the same applies to female students.
Covered in Blood[]
Decreases reputation by ten points if School Atmosphere is high, fifteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and twenty points if School Atmosphere is low. The protagonist's reputation will not be affected while in the Art Club and while wearing a painter's smock, because students will think that she is covered in paint instead of blood.
Carrying a suspicious item[]
If the player is carrying a suspicious item (such as a car battery) the reputation will drop by ten points (fifteen points with medium School Atmosphere, twenty points with low School Atmosphere), and if the player is carrying a cleaning item, the reputation will drop by three points (four and a half points with medium School Atmosphere, six points with low School Atmosphere).
Standing too close to a student[]
If the player stands too close to a student for five seconds and the School Atmosphere is high, the reputation will drop by one point, the reputation loss will decrease by 1.2 points if the School Atmosphere is medium, and if the School Atmosphere is low, the reputation will drop by two points.
Continuing to giggle at a student[]
Decreases reputation by ten points if School Atmosphere is high, fifteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and twenty points when School Atmosphere is low.
If the player's Seduction level is Rank 3, it will decrease her reputation by eight points if School Atmosphere is high, thirteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and eighteen points if School Atmosphere is low, and a male student is the witness. When Seduction is at Level 5, the same applies to female students.
Taking Panty Shots[]
Decreases reputation by ten points, regardless of School Atmosphere.
Continuing to Aim Camera at a student[]
If Ayano continues to aim her camera at a student without being in the Photography Club, her reputation will drop by two points, regardless of School Atmosphere.
Pickpocketing[]
If the protagonist is caught pickpocketing an NPC, her reputation will drop by ten points.
Leaving Witnesses Alive[]
If anyone sees the protagonist commit murder, her reputation will drop by ten points every subsequent day that witness is alive. They will refuse to speak to the protagonist and gossip about her every day. Killing them is the only way to salvage reputation, as that will return her reputation to its previous amount. However, Cowards will not damage her reputation under any circumstance, while Spiteful students will not damage her reputation if she kills someone they dislike.
Skipping School[]
If the protagonist skips school due to torturing students for twelve or eighteen hours, students will think of her as a delinquent. When torturing someone for twelve or eighteen hours, her reputation will drop by twenty points. If the protagonist decides to just skip school, her reputation will only drop by ten points.
Wearing a Rain Coat[]
If the player is seen wearing a rain coat, the reputation will drop by ten points, as it is weird to wear a rain coat when it is not raining.
Taking Nude Photographs[]
Decreases the protagonist's reputation by an unknown amount, likely greater than the penalty for taking panty shots. YandereDev would like to implement this idea. Taking nude photographs would tank her reputation, however.[11] As of more recent builds, girls now wear a towel when in the shower room, rather than becoming nude.
Bugs[]
- When wearing a mask, students will still damage the protagonist's reputation if she waits too long when taking a picture of them.
Trivia[]
- The NPC Reputation is a reference to the Stand stats from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
- The original reputation bar was located on the top left corner, slightly skewed.
- In the debug mode, the player can change the reputation of others by going to their Student Profile and pressing the + or - keys to raise or lower reputation points. If a student's reputation is lowered enough, they will not come to school the next day.
- In older builds, Ayano had an option to threaten students, which would cause her reputation to be damaged, but cause the student to leave.[12]
- As of the August 15th, 2019 Build, if Ayano is a delinquent, she can intimidate students into leaving an area.
- Befriending a rival may supply Ayano with a permanent reputation gain [13]
- if awareness goes over 100 points, the protagonist will blow their cover in Mission Mode.
- As of now, students will now follow the protagonst for a specific time, depending on her reputation. If she has low reputation, students will follow her for a few seconds. If she has neutral reputation, students will follow her for an average time. If she has high reputation, students will follow her for 60 seconds.
