Kaguya Wakaizumi is the first rival and one of the female students who attended Akademi in 1980s Mode. Following the game's storyline, she was Ryoba's second rival.

Appearance

Kaguya has shoulder-length, natural bright pink hair with two small side ponytails, each held by a yellow accessory. She has violet eyes.

She wears the default 1980s uniform with white knee-length socks. If the player completes her task, she will wear pink knee-length socks instead.

Personality

Kaguya is a bubbly and cheerful girl who loves to make new friends.
She spends most of her time in the school plaza chatting with a group of students that have been nicknamed 'The Rainbow Girls' because every one of them has differently-colored hair.
With her unique bright pink hair, Kaguya is hoping that she can become the latest addition to the rainbow crew.

Among the Personas that are currently implemented in the game, Kaguya is Lovestruck. If she witnesses Ryoba Aishi commit murder, she will run to Jokichi Yudasei and inform him that Ryoba is a murderer, causing an automatic Game Over. If she encounters a corpse, she will run to Jokichi and tell him there is a murder in Akademi; the two will then run out of school and call the police. Kaguya will only agree to follow Ryoba if she has a high enough reputation, suggesting that she doesn't trust others easily.

Kaguya will become a Snitch in subsequent weeks if she is eliminated peacefully and still attends Akademi.

If someone slapped Kaguya, she would start crying.

She would love to keep in contact with other people that graduated from Akademi. But she learnt from experience that nobody likes a forced relationship, so she did not keep contact with anybody else, unless they did themselves.

This is also similar to if she wanted to befriend the rivals. She wouldn't go her way to make friends with them, since she doesn't want to make it awkward or get rejected.

If someone gives Kaguya a flower, she would think it was very sweet and would want to talk to and learn more about the guy who gave her the flower.

Kaguya's white knee-socks represent her slight selfishness in trying to force friendship on the Rainbow Girls despite being aware of their discomfort.

If she joined a club, she would join the Gardening Club. If she decided to make her own, she would base the club on animal research.

Background

Kaguya's born on January 1st. According to her diary, Kaguya accidentally killed her best friend's pet when she was younger by feeding it some food it couldn't digest. Her friend forgave her, but she never stopped hating herself for it.

Introduction

In the introduction cutscene after the tutorial, Kaguya's silhouette is shown as Ryoba mentions that someone is in love with Jokichi.

After I disposed of the girl who was trying to steal my Senpai, I cleaned up all the evidence. I left no trace of what I had done... or so I thought. When the police investigated the girl's disappearance, they found a single blood stain that I failed to clean up. This was enough to make the police begin investigating the girl's disappearance as a possible murder case. A potential murder at an elite school was big news. It was a stain on the school's prestigious reputation. The headmaster didn't take it very well. I heard that he struck a deal with the police to keep any future investigations as discreet as possible. The faculty and the student council will be on high alert from now on. I'll need to be more careful in the future... but I can't rest yet. Another threat has appeared. She plans to confess her feelings to my Senpai at 6:00 PM on Friday. I need to stop her before then. If I kill every girl who shows an interest in my Senpai, I might attract more police attention to the school... so, even though I'm tempted to plunge a knife into her heart... perhaps I should consider avoiding bloodshed. I should eavesdrop on their conversations. I might be able to learn some valuable information. In fact... with a little bit of sabotage, I might be able to ruin their budding relationship and make my Senpai lose all interest in her...

Routine

Week 1

Kaguya socializing during Week 1.

At 7:00 AM, Kaguya walks to her locker and changes her shoes. She then heads to Classroom 2-1 to put down her bag and walks to the plaza to gossip with the Rainbow Girls. She heads back to her classroom at 8:00 AM and sits at her desk. She begins her morning classes at 8:30 AM.

At 1:00 PM, she goes to the rooftop to eat lunch with the Rainbow Students, and then heads back to class at 1:25 PM.

She lastly participates in cleaning time from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM and goes to the plaza afterwards. She changes her shoes at 5:25 PM and heads out of school.

Week 2 and onwards

If Kaguya survives her week but still attends school, she will go to the west side of the school to pet a cat outside of school.

Events

Monday

At 7:00 AM, Kaguya gives Jokichi a bento, claiming she made it for her sister, Kaho, and doesn't want it to be wasted after Kaho forgot it. Then, she will ask Jokichi to meet her at 5:15 PM and tell her how it tasted, which he will accept. At 5:15 PM, Jokichi and Kaguya meet outside the gate, and Kaguya asks how the bento was. If the bento wasn't poisoned with an emetic poison, Jokichi says he enjoyed it and Kaguya is a good cook; they then walk home together. If the bento was poisoned, Jokichi says that the bento made him sick, and they walk home separately.

Tuesday

At 7:00 AM, Jokichi gives Kaguya a book she had asked about and she puts it in her bookbag. They then decide to meet at 5:15 PM so she can return the book. At 5:15 PM, Jokichi and Kaguya meet outside the gate, and Jokichi asks her what she thought of it. If the book wasn't stolen, Kaguya says it was interesting and gives it back as she's planning on buying her own copy soon; they then walk home together. If the book was stolen, Kaguya apologizes for losing it, and they walk home separately.

Wednesday

At 7:00 AM, Kaguya tells Jokichi she has a gift for him, which she'll give to him at lunchtime. She leaves the gift on her desk when she goes to drop off her bag. At 1:00 PM, Kaguya and Jokichi meet on the Rooftop, where she gives him the gift box. If the contents weren't replaced with contraband, the box will contain a Saikou DotMatrix she borrowed from her brother, Kagemori, after hearing that Jokichi was interested in handheld consoles; they then eat lunch together. If the contents were replaced, Jokichi will refuse the gift, leaving a perplexed Kaguya to eat lunch alone.

Thursday

At 7:00 AM, Kaguya and Jokichi talk about a movie they're planning to see after school. During this conversation, Kaguya yawns, and Jokichi suggests she take a nap after cleaning time so she doesn't sleep through the movie. At 4:00 PM, she takes a nap in the Infirmary. If her bento wasn't poisoned with a Sedative, Kaguya meets Jokichi at the gate at 5:15 PM, and they leave school to see the movie. If her bento was poisoned, Jokichi will get impatient and go home at 5:55 PM.

Friday

At 7:00 AM, Kaguya talks to Jokichi. During this conversation, Jokichi will tell her that he is worried about a test that they will have before lunch. Unfortunately, he lost all of the notes he took and was unable to study before the test. Kaguya copies her notes for him and leaves them on his desk. At 1:00 PM, Kaguya and Jokichi will meet on the roof, and she will ask him if the notes helped. If the notes weren't sabotaged, Jokichi says he aced the test, and they eat lunch together. If the notes were sabotaged, Jokichi says the notes didn't help him at all, and Kaguya figures that she made a mistake in her haste to copy them, and they eat lunch separately.

At 5:00 PM, Kaguya will go to Jokichi's locker and leave a note asking him to meet her under the cherry tree behind the school. If Ryoba Aishi matchmakes her, she will go to Banri Masayuki's locker instead. Kaguya will then run to the Confession Tree and wait for either Jokichi or Banri. She will then confess her love to him. If she confesses to Jokichi, he will either accept her feelings or reject them. If she confesses to Banri, he will accept her feelings.

To complete Kaguya's task, the player can head to the fabric rack in the Sewing Room, grab some pink fabric, and create the socks using the sewing machine with a magazine demonstrating how to create socks. The player can check their inventory to find the socks in their possession.

Relationships

Jokichi Yudasei

During the first week of 1980s Mode, Kaguya befriends Jokichi and begins to develop feelings for him. Canonically, however, her relationship with him is eventually destroyed due to Ryoba sabotaging her events which causes Jokichi to reject her love confession, leading to her avoiding him in subsequent weeks.

YandereDev has officially stated that Kaguya moved on with her life and got married, meaning she is alive in the canon timeline. Kaguya's determination to confess to Jokichi, despite the failed interactions, was because she was hopeful Jokichi would accept her confession.

Banri Masayuki

Kaguya's suitor is Banri, and Ryoba can matchmake her with him.

In the aftermath of the 1980s Mode, Banri approached Kaguya They started dating after June of 1989. After graduating, Kaguya opened a cat café with Banri helping preparing the food. She got married with him regardless of whether they were matchmade and had two kids with him.

Others

• Family: Kaguya has two siblings, a brother and a sister, who she mentioned in her event dialogue. YandereDev has stated that her brother's name is Kagemori, while her sister is Kaho. Her relationship with her siblings is currently unknown.
  • In the 1980s Mode, there is a male student in the Newspaper Club and a female student in the Art Club who share the same first names as Kaguya's brother (Kagemori) and sister (Kaho), respectively. YandereDev confirms that Kagemori Takagi and Kaho Miki are not related to Kaguya.
  • Additionally, in Story Mode, there is a teacher who also shares her first name with her sister (Kaho Kanokogi)
• Rainbow Girls: In the first week of 1980s Mode, Kaguya talks with the rainbow-haired girls in the hopes of becoming friends with them. She knows that they're uncomfortable with her pushiness, but ignores it. However, after the events of Week 1, she stopped pursuing the friendship.
• Ryoba Aishi: Kaguya was unaware that Ryoba Aishi was sabotaging her interactions.
• Moeko Rakuyona: Kaguya thought of Moeko as weird, since the latter only wanted to hang out with boys. She couldn't figure out if Moeko was a "boy-crazy girl" who wanted to flirt with other guys, or was super masculine and couldn't get along with feminine friends.
  • Kaguya and Moeko were the only two rivals present on orientation day.
• Ai Doruyashi: If Kaguya and Ai spoke to each other, their conversation would be friendly, cherry, and bubbly.

Canon Elimination

This section contains spoilers. You have been warned!

Kaguya's canon elimination is Rejection.

1. Monday: Poisoning Jokichi Yudasei's Bento.
   • The player can acquire the poison by going to the Convenience Store and purchasing Rat Poison, or unlocking (pickpocketing, lockpicking, or joining the club) the Gardening Club shed and grabbing the Rat Poison.
   • The player must wait for Jokichi to place the Bento on his desk, and then add the poison.
2. Tuesday: Stealing The Borrowed Book.
   • Follow Kaguya to her desk, open her bag, click the "Books" prompt, and click "Steal Borrowed Book" from her book bag.

The options to sabotage a gift.

1. Wednesday: Sabotaged Gift.
   • Before school, the player must buy one of the following four:
     • Condoms (found in the Convenience Store), Alcohol (purchase with a Fake ID or get it from the Headmaster's Office), Narcotics (need Yakuza), or Cigarettes (purchase with a fake ID or steal from the Faculty Room)
     • Follow Kaguya to her desk and click one of the four following:
       • 'R' for Narcotics.
       • 'F' for Cigarettes.
       • 'Q' for Condoms.
       • 'E' for Alcohol.
2. Thursday: Poisoning Kaguya's Bento.
   • The player has two options to obtain a Sedative.
     • Buy Sleeping Medicine from the Convenience Store before school.
     • Lockpicking the cabinet in the Infimary. Juri Nagasawa must be distracted. There are two ways to get a lockpick.
       • Craft a lockpick with Hairpins found in the Drama Club and Paperclips from the Faculty Room
       • Purchasing a lockpick from the Yakuza for 100$.
     • Once the player obtains the Sedative. Go to Kaguya's desk and open her bookbag, click the "Bento" prompt, and click "Put Sedative Poison In Bento".
3. Friday: Sabotaging Study Notes
   • Follow Kaguya to Jokichi's desk and sabotage the Study Notes found on his desk.
   • Jokichi will now reject her when she confesses to him at the Confession Tree.

Trivia

• The "Kagu" part of her name means 'brilliance' (輝) or 'moon' (月), while "Ya" means night (夜) or 'princess or noblewoman' (姬), while her surname, Wakaizumi, means "young" (waka, 若) and "fountain" (Izumi, 泉).
  • Her full name is phonetically similar to the word "cute" (かわいい, kawaī).
    • Additionally, YandereDev's nickname for her is "cutesy," and her silhouette file name is "cute."
• Her canon elimination is being rejected by Senpai, and this is done through sabotage.
  • She is one of the five rivals to canonically be left alive by Ryoba, the others being Teiko Nabatasai, Komako Funakoshi, Chigusa Busujima, and Sonoko Sakanoue.
  • Due to both Chigusa and Sonoko leaving Akademi after the tenth week, and Teiko being canonically expelled and Komako being canonically eliminated via gossip, Kaguya is the only rival to continue attending Akademi after the events of 1980s Mode until graduating.
• Kaguya is the only rival who has canonically been able to attempt to confess to Jokichi Yudasei.
• In YandereDev's video "Everything About 1980s Mode in Yandere Simulator", he explained that Kaguya has no special traits that make her more difficult to eliminate. In his words, she's an opportunity for the player to test out the mechanics they have learned in the tutorial.
• She is the only 1980s rival who is a classmate with Ryoba, similar to Osana Najimi being a rival and classmate with Ayano Aishi from 202X Mode.
• She adopted a cat sometime after the events of 1980s Mode.
• If she had a voice, she would sound cutesy.
• She would go to Amai Odayaka's family bakery.
• Out of all of the 1980s rivals and their intelligence, Kaguya is ranked in 6th place.
