Personality[]

Joze Shiuba - real name José Silva - is the treasurer of the student council in 1989.

Joze demonstrated a prodigious understanding of mathematics from a young age, earning him the nickname "A Calculadora Humana" - the Human Calculator - from his classmates. His family and peers encouraged him to attend the Olimpíada Brasileira de Matemática - the Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad - where he achieved a record number of gold medals. After this, he attended the 1988 International Mathematical Olympiad, where he scored a perfect 42/42 points, single-handedly turning Brazil into the winning country of that year's competition.

The Olympiad was held in Australia that year, and the experience of traveling to another country awakened something in Joze - an overwhelming desire to travel to as many countries as possible, and see as much of the world as he possibly could. Around this point in time, numerous academies and universities began to offer him scholarships; they viewed him as the type of rare, world-changing genius who only appears once or twice a century, and they were all very eager to welcome him into their facilities and see what kind of breakthroughs he could accomplish.

One of those invitations stood out to him - a scholarship offer from the world-famous Akademi Academy. Joze had been enamored with Japanese culture and aesthetics for as long as he could remember, and had even been studying the Japanese language in his spare time. So, out of all the options available to him, he chose to attend Akademi. He immediately intensified his study of the Japanese language, determined to arrive at Akademi with enough knowledge of Japanese to excel academically.

Upon arriving at Akademi, Joze was greeted by Reiichi Tanamii, who offered to grant him a tour of the school. When the two of them arrived in the student council room, Joze saw a stack of budget spreadsheets, and couldn't resist the urge to peek at them. Within seconds, he spotted errors and discrepancies that had slipped past the other members of the student council, and pointed them out to Reiichi. Reiichi instantly recognized the potential for Joze to become a valuable asset for the student council, and immediately offered him a position as the council's treasurer. Joze accepted.

Joze quickly became a popular topic of discussion among the female students of Akademi; some of them were impressed by his genius mind, others thought he was charming and thoughtful, and there were also some who perceived him as mysterious and "exotic" merely for being foreign-born. Despite being the subject of many whispered hallway conversations and stolen glances in class, Joze seemed completely unaware of the attention, too focused on his duties and studies to notice the effect that he had on the school's female population.

Although he succeeded in gaining enough mastery of the Japanese language to fully comprehend everything that his teachers said during class, he often became nervous and flustered the moment he had to converse in Japanese, and would often stutter and stumble his way through sentences with a mixture of Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, and even some random English. Although this embarrassed him immensely, most of his peers just thought it was really cute and endearing. He received a small amount of light teasing for his linguistic mistakes, but, overall, everyone at Akademi was quite accepting towards him.

After graduating from Akademi, Joze continued to travel the world, alternating back and forth between visiting his family in Brazil, traveling to various countries as a tourist, and teaching mathematics at prestigious universities worldwide. As time passed, Japan quickly became just one of many countries that Joze had stepped foot in during his travels. Although he didn't remain in direct contact with most of his old acquaintances from Akademi, he did find time to attend the funeral of his former colleague, Daisaku.

Treasurer of the student council. A foreign exchange student from Brazil. His Japanese is rough, but he's a genius with numbers. Many girls at school think his accent is cute, and find him to be "exotic".

— Previous description in Ryoba's notebook.

Among the Personas that are currently implemented in the game, Joze is Dangerous. If he witnesses Ryoba Aishi commit murder, he will run up, spray her with pepper spray, and restrain her. Like the 202X Student Council members, he will push Ryoba away if she gets too close and pepper spray her if she attempts to kill him without stealth or gets too close five times. He will break up fights between Ryoba and a delinquent by standing between them.

Like Daisaku Aragaki, he would simply wear plain deodorant instead of perfume.[3]

According to his profile on the Character Page of the Game's Website, his weakness is "Japanese".

Joze likes Brazilian girls.[4] He enjoys listening to music that reminds him of Brazil.[5] Joze would enjoy Chainsaw Man.[6] His favorite character would be Makima.[7]

If Joze weren't in the student council, he would be in the Sports Club with Daisaku Aragaki.[8]

If Joze were given a flower, he would be awkward and attempt to remember how to say "thank you" and "flower" in Japanese.[9]

If Joze caught someone skipping, he would continuously mispronounce the Japanese phrase for "skipping class" until he got it right. But the student skipping would get bored and return to class.[10]

If Joze were called sexy, he would bashfully rub the back of his head and then thank the person, but not in Japanese.[11]

If Joze were hit by someone, he would assume that he did something wrong/offensive and apologize to the person who hit him.[12] This reaction is also similar if someone bullied him, as he would perceive this bullying as punishment, since he did something wrong.[13]
