Ichiko Saikou is the former heiress of Saikou Corp. She is the ex-daughter of the Saikou Corp's former CEO and founder, Saisho Saikou.

She was first mentioned in Headmaster Tape #1.

Appearance[]

Ichiko has fair skin, silver eyes, and thigh-length silver hair with two thick strands framing her face. One lock is shorter than the other, and the other one is long with a strand protruding from it.

She wears a pale, peach sundress with bows at the bottom of the shoulder straps and a brown belt with a gold buckle. She also wears a necklace with a gold pendant, grey boots, and a large white hat, with a light salmon bow.

Personality[]

According to her brother's description, Ichiko "was a cheerful and friendly girl who enjoyed creating art and spending time with animals."

She was friendly to people and genuinely wanted to befriend people and act like a normal school girl, although due to her status as the daughter of Saisho, many students feared her and did not treat her like a human being but rather as a goddess. It is implied she fears being treated unequally, as she was treated as a goddess (and not as a normal person) in Akademi and was not treated well during her teenage years in high school due to her grades.[2]

Ichiko's reason for giving other people nicknames was due to her poor memory of remembering other people's names. The only way she could remember someone's name was if she related the person's name with a word she was familiar with.[3]

Description[]

Ichiko Saikou is the firstborn daughter of Saisho Saikou, the founder of Saikou Corp. She was first in line to inherit Saikou Corp from her father, although it would ultimately be her brother who inherited the company.

As the daughter of one of the most intelligent and influential men of the 20th century, many people expected her to excel academically. However, throughout her teenage years, her performance at school was never above average. Because she failed to live up to the impossibly high expectations placed on her, she was treated unkindly by her peers, leading her to have many unpleasant experiences throughout high school.

According to press releases from Saikou Corp, Saisho Saikou was heartbroken to see his daughter unhappy, so he came up with a way to let her 're-live' high school while still continuing her education: he paid for the construction of an academy that is meant to resemble a traditional Japanese high school as much as possible.

Official sources claim that Saisho Saikou wanted to give his daughter the perfect 'high school experience', so he tailored the school to her exact tastes. Ichiko loves the countryside, so Akademi was built in a rural area. Ichiko's favorite colors are white and gold, which is why Akademi has a white and gold color scheme. Ichiko loves symmetry, so the school building has a square shape. Ichiko adores 'sailor-style' school uniforms, so Akademi's uniforms were designed to resemble middle-school uniforms instead of the blazers that are more commonly found in traditional Japanese high schools.

During the late 1980s, there were rumors that the officially-given explanation for Akademi's construction was a carefully crafted lie, and that the true reason for the school's existence was much more sinister. These rumors claimed that Saisho was tremendously disappointed in his daughter for failing to live up to his own legacy, and had created Akademi to be a school-themed 'boot camp' designed to whip her into shape and train her to become the perfect heir to his company. Interest in these rumors slowly declined over time due to a lack of evidence.

Ichiko graduated from Akademi in 1989 when she was 19. With Ichiko gone, the school had finished serving its original purpose - but it was not closed down. Saikou Corp decided to market Akademi as an elite school for high school graduates who wanted to continue their education in an setting that simulates the feeling of a high school environment. Aspiring students must be at least 18 years old in order to apply for enrollment at Akademi. If accepted, students can choose to be a 'first-year', 'second-year', or 'third-year' student. Some students enroll in Akademi purely to receive an elite education, while a very small minority enroll because they want to re-live their high school years once last time before they move on to college.

The school's name has its origins in Ichiko's childhood. When Ichiko Saikou was a young girl, she adored a bedtime story about a school for young witches and wizards called 'the Akademi Institute.' When Saisho built the school, he named it 'Akademi Academy' - but saying the school's name feels like saying the same word twice, so most people just call it 'Akademi.'

Ichiko Saikou vanished from the public eye in 1990, When she was 20. The disappearance of Ichiko Saikou is a mystery; nobody knows why she vanished or where she went. Some people theorize that she may have been unable to handle the immense expectations placed on her by her father and the world, so she fled Japan to live in secrecy overseas, where she enjoys a quiet and peaceful life. Other, more extreme theories postulate that her father executed her for failing to live up to his standards. To this day, nobody knows the ultimate fate of Ichiko Saikou or where on Earth she might be.

Sometimes, elderly people recall that Ichiko had a twin sister, even though there is no evidence that this twin ever existed. The term 'Ichiko Syndrome' is sometimes used to describe the phenomenon of multiple people sharing the same false memory.

Background[]

This section contains spoilers. You have been warned!

Starting from early childhood, Ichiko was given training to prepare her for the responsibilities that come with operating a company - training that became more advanced and intense with each passing year. Her father created Akademi specifically for her and customized the school to fit her exact tastes.

After she graduated, she decided she didn't want to inherit Saikou Corp and instead wanted to travel the world to find her sister. This enraged her father, as he had put a lot of time and money into her training. After a long, heated argument about her decision, it resulted in her father disowning her and her subsequently leaving.

YandereDev imagines that she got a new part-time job in every place she traveled to. Being a Saikou who went through intense "become the perfect CEO" training, it wouldn't be hard for her to excel at almost any type of job, or make wise business investments that would make her rich.[4]

It is not yet known how any of this information will play into the story of the full game.

Relationships[]

Her Father[]

Main article: Saisho Saikou

Ichiko absolutely hates her father. A notable example is when she confided to Ryoba Aishi of her father controlling her, to the point where she wanted to leave Japan and change her identity just to get away from her father. She absolutely disliked being treated like a "goddess" from her peers just because of her father's influence and never wanted to be apart of a wealthy family name. Ichiko also had no intentions to have responsibilities after graduation and inheriting Saikou Corp. She also kept on hearing voices in her head from someone claiming to be her sister.[5]

Her hatred for her father was still present. After she graduated, she was constantly kept busy by her father, leaving her no chance to talk to Ryoba. She left from the public eye at the beginning of 1990 after her last phone call with Ryoba. Her father was furious at the resources he wasted and has disowned her.[5]

Ryoba Aishi[]

Main article: Ryoba Aishi

Ichiko considers Ryoba her only true friend.[5] However, Ryoba doesn't consider Ichiko a friend, as Aishi's rarely feel that way for someone.[6] Ichiko met Ryoba in 1988[7] before the events in 1989.

Ryoba informally talking to Ichiko like she was just someone else, was what Ichiko always wanted from her peers. It was isolating for Ichiko to not be seen as an equal or be feared by others because of her father. The two girls became close friends, where Ichiko confided to Ryoba about many of her family problems and deepest secrets.

The last time the two talked was at the beginning of 1990, where Ichiko had a final phone call with Ryoba and sent her a letter. Ichiko has never been seen from the public eye again since this final goodbye.[5]

Fun Girl[]

Main article: Fun Girl

Ichiko has a twin sister that is shattered across time and space, as a side effect of that most people do not believe her twin exists, yet Ichiko can still hear her voice.

Ichiko is committed to finding her sister and helping her (even though her sister does not think it's possible as she does not technically exist), going so far as to travel the world.

Trivia[]

  • If fun.txt is set to the 0 value in April 2nd, 2018, build, Fun Girl will mention a URL, which is Megami's aunt illustration on the official website. Putting "-front" after "aunt" in the URL will reveal the front illustration of her.
  • She is 13 years older than her brother.[8]
  • YandereDev is not planning for her to have any children.[9]
  • She considers Ryoba as her only friend during her years at Akademi.
  • Her name, Ichiko (一子), means "first child".[10]
    • Her name is structured similarly to her brother's name, which means "first son" (一郎).
  • Her niece is treated the same in 202X timeline just like Ichiko experienced between 1986-1988.[11]
  • Ichiko believes in the supernatural. This is because she has voices that nobody else could hear, and seeing an entity in her dreams. She likely had authorized the Occult Club in 1988 due to the fact that she was hoping the club members could figure out a way to commune with "beings that exist in a non-corporeal form".[12]
  • Her phone number is 75-067-5708.
  • Ichiko established the tradition at Akademi for giving people nicknames that abbreviated versions of their names or Japanese pronunciation of English words that describe them. [13]
    • Everyone at school thought her nicknaming system was cringey, but no one said anything since she was the daughter of Saisho Saikou. When she graduated, they only kept the tradition to mock her, but the origins was eventually forgotten. Kocho Shuyona is the only person who knows how the tradition started.[3]
  • Ichiko is the reason why the uniforms in 1989 had the base color of brown.[14]
  • Thanks to Ichiko's hyper advanced business training, she was able to independently set up her own business (being careful to choose a field that would have zero overlap/competition with Saikou Corp) and become rich without needing to use any of her family's money.[15]
  • When she was the student council, she populated the council with people she liked. While these people made the council look friendly, they also took their jobs pretty seriously.[16]

Quotes

Dear Ryoba,

Today, I will be leaving Japan with no intention of returning.

You already know the reasons why.

However, I could not bear the thought of leaving without speaking to my only friend one last time.

Please forgive this unorthodox method of getting into contact with you.

My father's men monitor my movements and communications very closely.

Establishing a secure way to communicate with you was very difficult, but I have done it.

There will be a brief window of opportunity that will allow us to speak without being monitored.

I have timed the delivery of this postcard to coincide with that window.

If you wish to speak with me one last time, call this number immediately: 75-067-5708

In the event that we miss our brief opportunity and never speak again, I just wanted to say one thing:

Thank you for being my friend when no-one else would.

Signed,
Ichiko Saikou

Wow! You have dark circles around your eyes. Like a racoon! I'll call you Ra-kun!

— Hypothetical quote from Ichiko giving people silly nicknames, establishing a tradition at Akademi.[13]

Your name is Shigeaki Fubuki, and you want to become a chef? Your name is such a tongue-twister...ah! I know! I'll call you She Fu, because "shefu" is how to pronounce the English word chef, and it's similar to your name!

— Hypothetical dialogue of Ichiko giving somebody a nickname.[3]

Okay! Next! Hmm, your name is Aiki Abe, so I'll call you...
