Hayanari Tsumeato is one of the male students who currently attends Akademi.

Appearance[]

Hayanari has a short, spiky blond pompadour and dark gray eyes. He has a large scar going sideways on top of his nose.

He wears the default school uniform with the jacket open revealing a dark gray shirt with a two red eyes framed with two handcuffs, with a red key below, three helix piercings on both ears and a large, thin box on his back containing a lead pipe unless customized by the player. He is the second shortest out of all of the delinquents.^[3]

Prior to becoming a delinquent, he wore the default uniform and had short, auburn hair.

Personality[]

Last year, he was relentlessly bullied for showing signs of a receding hairline. His best friend Hokuto stood up for him, and was bullied for doing so. He felt tremendous guilt over this, and developed a smoking habit.

Among the Personas currently implemented in the game, Hayanari is Violent. If Ayano Aishi aims her phone at him, he will scowl and cover his face. If he sees Ayano carrying a corpse or committing murder, he will run up to her and begin a combat mini-game and if Ayano wins, he will run out of the school and call the police. However, if he witnesses Ayano carrying or murdering a bully, he will compliment her on her crime and run off. This is due to the fact that Hayanari wishes death on Bullies who bullied him and his friends, as seen in the Death Demon's ritual.

If he witnesses Ayano carrying the corpse of or murdering Kokoro Momoiro when all of the other bullies are dead, he will run up to Ayano and begin a combat mini-game until himself or Ayano have been downed.

If Ayano initiates a fight with him, he will fight until either one of them are injured, if he loses, he will drop his weapon.

If he sees Ayano bloody or insane, he will only mock her and not lower her reputation.

He projects a "fearsome" appearance so that he will not be bullied again.^[4] Additionally, Hayanari's delinquent personality is merely an important façade, as he would only let his guard down when he knows that the area he is at is where a peer from his school won't see him. The lower the possibility is, the more relaxed and casual he becomes.^[5]

Hayanari thinks the concept of occult is interesting, but refuses to express his interest in it, since he thinks it could get him bullied for it.^[6]

Hayanari doesn't like sports because he feels ashamed when he fails in it.^[7] His favorite game genre is beat-em-up.^[7] Additionally, his favorite video-game is "The Legend of the Dragonflame Highschool".^[6] He also listens to hard rock and heavy metal.^[6]

He enjoyed drawing "pretty" things before he got bullied. After losing interest, he is now only interested in morbid subjects to draw, like skulls.^[6]

He is interested in becoming a locksmith due to the fact that many locks are easily picked by Hayanari. He wants to design a lock that cannot be easily lock-picked.^[3] Additionally, he is interested in the sport of lock-picking, but not for malicious reasons. He would like to learn more about locks.^[6] He plans to get a job related to locksmithing instead of pursuing a higher education.^[8]

Even though he rarely gets the chance to eat them, he enjoys "cake cookies".^[6]

Background[]

Originally, Hayanari was being bullied to the point of considering a suicide pact with his four friends after the bullying reached its peak. However, after he and his friends witnessed Osoro Shidesu beat up multiple students from another school, he realized the importance of a tough façade, joined with her, and changed his appearance and attitude to fit that of a delinquent.^[4] Hayanari, alongside the other delinquents, started getting bullied simultaneously, in a similar timeframe. Which was 24 hours.^[9]

Hayanari's scar is a result of him and his friends walking up to the Bullies, pulling out their knives, and slitting their skins in various spots. The group of boys glared at Musume Ronshaku for a bit, then left with blood dripping on their faces. It sent a message to Musume and her friends, who realized that the next time they bullied the delinquents, the damage the boys did to themselves would be done to them next. The bullies have stopped bullying them since.^[10]

He smokes and doesn't plan to quit yet.^[7]

Routine[]

At 7:20 AM, Hayanari enters the school grounds. He walks to his locker at 7:30 AM and changes from his outdoor shoes to his indoor shoes. At 7:40 AM, he walks to the Incinerator and talks with Hokuto Furukizu, Gaku Hikitsuri, Dairoku Surikizu and Umeji Kizuguchi.

At 8:30 AM, Hayanari walks into Classroom 2-2, sits at his desk and plays on his phone. He starts his morning classes at 8:40 AM, and leaves to go to the incinerator at 1:00 PM.

Hayanari walks back to class again at 1:40 PM and goes to the incinerator between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM.

Task[]

Hayanari's task is to procure him a pack of cigarettes, that can be bought from Info-chan's drops at the cost of 5 info points, or stolen from the faculty room. After completing his task, Ayano Aishi will befriend him and he won't shove her off anymore if she approaches him. But unlike other students, he won't do favors for Ayano.

Completing his task is essential to join the Delinquents, as well as the other delinquents' tasks.

Hayanari's relationship with his fellow delinquents is best described as people who have a mutual trust and friendship with one another, and spend a lot of time together. Their situation does not make them friends, but rather "comrades in arms". They do develop friendships with one another gradually.^[11]

His fellow delinquents want him to stop smoking.^[6] Osoro Shidesu also dislikes his smoking, since it reminds her of her own father.^[12]

When they talk near the Incinerator Area, they talk about their shared interests. They also talk about the students at Akademi. Who may be a bully, who may be bullied and where they should relocate if they want to keep an eye on someone.^[13]

Hayanari and Hokuto are best friends. According to Hayanari's profile, Hokuto stood up for him when he was getting bullied, which led to the Bullies targeting him. Both of them hang out together after school.^[3] Hayanari also respects Hokuto.^[6] They both became friends in middle school.^[14]

Even after they graduate from Akademi, they would keep in contact with one another.^[3]

Hokuto does not like the fact that Hayanari smokes, but respects him for his free will to do so.^[13]

His Family[]

Hayanari's parents look similar to him. He also has a brother and a sister.^[3]

According his conversational topics, he dislikes the topic of "family". This is likely because according to YandereDev, his family does not pay attention to him enough that they are unaware that he is smoking.^[15] A further explanation for the dislike of his family is because his parents did not do anything while he was facing the bullying in school. They refused to take the bullying seriously, as they think it should be ignored. They are too engrossed in their jobs to even bother about the wellbeing of Hayanari.^[6]

He was implemented in the April 26th, 2018 Build.
His first name Hayanari (written: 隼成 or 逸勢) is a real Japanese last name.^[16]
- Hayanari (written: 隼成) has two meanings. 隼 is "peregrine falcon", while 成 means "to become, to accomplish, to succeed."^[17]
  - YandereDev originally planned to name him Nosu (from the word nose), but this idea was abandoned as players would not approve of this way of choosing a name for a character.^[18]
His surname Tsumeato (爪痕) means ”scratch mark”.
He and Dairoku Surikizu had an appearance switch. This change has been made in August 18th, 2018 build.
Hayanari's hair was inspired by Kanji Tatsumi from Persona 4.^[19]
When at home, Hayanari likes to wear something comfortable and casual, especially if he does not plan to leave the house.^[20]
If the delinquents stopped being friends altogether, Hayanari would keep up his tough façade, just by himself instead of his group. While he lacks members or a gang to back him up, he would still continue to intimidate others who attempted to bully him.^[21]
According to YandereDev, Hayanari's method of acquiring cigarettes includes stealing, using a Fake ID, or buying them off of someone who sells illegal items.^[22] Additionally, he is the only boy among his group who indulges in actual delinquency.^[14]
