Hanae Ono is one of the female students who attended Akademi in 1980s Mode.

Hanae has brown hair tied into a bun on her left. Her bangs are longer on the left than right, the former reaching past her chin and the latter past her ears. She has black eyes.
She wears the default 1980s uniform with a reporter’s ID on a black lanyard around her neck.
Previous[]
Before the July 2nd, 2022 Build, she had waist-length dark brown hair tied into large space buns. She had straight bangs, the sections on either side of her head reaching her chest, and the section on her forehead covering her eyebrows and her eyes were caramel.
In the January 5th, 2024 Build, her hair was shortened, now reaching her upper back, and the sections on either side of her head were shortened to her shoulders.
Before the October 21st, 2024 Build, her hair was cappuccino brown.
Personality[]
The gossip columnist of the school newspaper. Obsessed with boosting down the latest 'juicy drama.' Seems to know everything about everyone; almost nothing escapes her knowledge.
Among the Personas that are currently implemented in the game, Hanae is a Sleuth. When the school atmosphere is above 80%, she will act upon the Snitch persona if she finds a corpse or witnesses Ryoba Aishi commit murder.
When the school atmosphere is below 80%, she will take a photo of Ryoba committing murder or of the corpse and run to show it to The Journalist, who is just outside the school. This will cause an instant Game Over if the photo is of Ryoba committing murder, as Ryoba will have been arrested.
Hanae is obsessed with gossip and has full knowledge about other students such as their likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc. There is no backstory how she became interested in gossip and just finds it entertaining. She likely embraces the notion that "information is power," relishing the idea that the more knowledge she possesses, the greater advantage she holds over others.[2]
Despite adopting the "Sleuth" persona, she is a Social Butterfly with many friends. Outwardly, she is nice and friendly, but she gossips about absolutely everyone, meaning that even though she acts nice, she doesn't respect anyone enough to never gossip about them.[2]

At 7:05 AM, Hanae enters the school grounds. She walks to her locker at 7:10 AM and changes from her outdoor shoes to her indoor shoes. At 7:15 AM, she enters the Newspaper Club and types on her typewriter before walking down to the Plaza. She will occasionally go back to the Newspaper Club to write some more and then return to the Plaza.
At 8:00 AM, she walks to Classroom 1-2 and sits at her desk. She starts her morning classes at 8:30 AM, and leaves to go back to the Newspaper Club at 1:00 PM and continues writing the newspaper along with the rest of the club members. (She will eat her lunch near the Sociology Classroom with the rest of the club members during Mission Mode.)
She walks back to class again at 1:30 PM and participates in Cleaning Time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM.
Afterwards, Hanae will head back to the Newspaper Club and type on her typewriter before walking back down to the Plaza, continuing to walk back and forth between them.
If Ryoba Aishi joins the club and participates in the club activity, she will help write the next day's newspaper.
If the Newspaper Club is disbanded, she will socialize with the other former members near the Akademi Daily.

Hanae will quickly rush to her locker and change into her shoes at 7:00 AM, she then runs over to the outside of the Occult Club to sit down and read.
At 8:15 AM, Hanae will run to Classroom 1-2 and sits at her desk and starts her morning classes at 8:30 AM. Afterwards, she leaves to eat her lunch outside of the Calligraphy Room.
Afterwards, she runs back to class again at 1:28 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, she will sit will sit down to read by the Faculty Room, and stays there until the end of the day.
On Thursday, she will not participate during cleaning time and will instead sit down and read till the end of the day.

Hanae will quickly rush to her locker and change into her shoes at 7:00 AM. Afterwards, she goes upstairs to sit down and read at the stairs leading up to the second floor.
At 8:15 AM, Hanae will run to Classroom 1-2 and sits at her desk and starts her morning classes at 8:30 AM. Afterwards, she leaves to eat her lunch outside of Classroom 2-1.
Then, she runs back to class again at 1:28 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, she will sit down to read by the Infirmary, and stays there until the end of the day.
On Thursday, she will not participate during cleaning time and will instead sit down and read till the end of the day.
On Friday, she will instead have her lunch outside of Classroom 2-1.

Then, she runs back to class again at 1:28 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, she will head outside to sit down and read by the boys' shower room, and stays there until the end of the day.

On Thursday, she will not participate during cleaning time and will instead sit down and read till the end of the day.

Week 10[]
During Week 10, Hanae helps with Sonoko Sakanoue's investigation. She will take a photo of Ryoba committing murder or of the corpse and run to show it to the Journalist, who are just outside the school. This will cause an instant Game Over if the photo is of Ryoba committing murder, as Ryoba will have been arrested.

Hanae's relationship with her fellow students is unknown and they do not realize how much she knows about everyone else.[2]
Ryoba Aishi[]
- Main article: Ryoba Aishi
After Ryoba's case was publicly reported, Hanae became very interested in her. Despite Ryoba's innocence, Hanae is one of the Akademi students who wasn't convinced about Ryoba. After the trial, she investigated Ryoba for a little bit, but eventually stopped because she couldn't find anything conclusive.
If Hanae had continued investigating Ryoba, she would have eventually been killed due to her being a witness.[2]

- The "hana" in "Hanae" can be written as "flower" (花), "early" (早), or "English" (英). It can also be written with "ha" and "na" as separate characters. "Ha" can be written as "leaf" (葉), and "na" as "greens" (菜), "seven" (七), or "the name of the fruit trees" (奈). "E" can be written in many ways, including "blessed" (恵), "branch" (枝), "beautiful" (娃), and "clever" (慧).
- "Ono" is written as 小野, meaning "small field."
- As she shares the same student ID number as Midori Gurin, she gets brought to the roof if Ryoba teleports there with debug commands. She is also the female victim that can be summoned by praying to Tatoro for the same reason.
- Hanae enrolled in Akademi and joined the Newspaper Club in 1989.[2]
- She and Ui Tunesu are the only students to use the "paranoid" walk, regardless of the school atmosphere.
- Hanae was given Yae Ogata's hairstyle in the 1980's Revamp update.
