Freezing

Freezing (also known as Freeze To Death or Frozen To Death) is a type of lethal elimination method used to murder students.

Gameplay[]

To eliminate a student by freezing, the protagonist can utilize the freezer in the Biology Lab to their advantage. The player must have a Rank 1 status in Physical Education to successfully perform this method. The protagonist should then get a student to follow them to the biology lab, and bring the student near the freezer. Alternatively, she can lure a student near the freezer door using any distraction if the student passes by the room.

Once the protagonist and the student are near the door, the player can hold "F" to start the process. This will immediately spiral the protagonist's sanity downwards, as she will harshly push her victim into the freezer, before quickly heading to the control panel to her right and mashing it to close the glass doors. The victim will then regain their composure and start banging on the sliding door with an angry look. The protagonist will then alter the settings of the control panel by changing the temperature to -20 Celsius (-4 Fahrenheit) and bypassing the panel by hitting it multiple times. This will cause the panel to flash red and green multiple times throughout the process. There will also be snow particles that enter the freezer through the vent on the wall.

Although the protagonist is finished with the elimination, with her sanity fully depleted, her victim will continue to slowly suffer. The victim will feel the cold after their failed tries banging on the glass, and will fall to their knees. They will attempt to keep themselves warm by trying to produce body heat. Their skin will also start turning into an icy color and texture, showing them going through the process of severe frostbite. The victim's final breath moment will have them look around their environment, look down to their knees, and fall to the right side. Their entire body will be completely frozen. The protagonist will be unable to retrieve the corpse, and students/faculty members will not see the corpse in the freezer.

If an NPC sees the protagonist murder this method, they would react depending on their persona. Some will run to safety, others will try to apprehend the protagonist or beg for their life to be spared.

As of the February 15th, 2025 build, the player can make this elimination method possible for their Custom Mode.

The elimination method was added on the February 1st, 2025 build.
YandereDev first mentioned this elimination method in a reply to his WordPress blog post: August 5th Bug Fixing Build on August 13th, 2024.^[1]
Before the second build on the same day, it was possible to interact with the student's frozen corpse. It was also manageable to see the victim alive on the next day if they were killed with this elimination method on the previous day.
- To retrieve the corpse, the player would need to mod the game with PoseMod by kgftbz and no-clip into the freezer.
This elimination method has been added to the Week select screen, the Calendar screen, and the courtroom scene.
Before the March 15th, 2025 build, the protagonist only lost 20% of her sanity when she murdered someone using the freezer. Additionally, the loss of sanity would be depleted immediately as soon as the player clicked "F" to start it.
This elimination method, alongside Vent, are the only two elimination methods to fully deplete the protagonist's sanity to 0%.
The temperature of -20°C (-4°F) that the protagonist uses to kill is not as deadly in reality as it is in the game and would take several hours. It would need to be lower, such as -60°C (-76°F) or lower to be fatal. This is likely because similar to YandereDev's explanation about immolation, "you gotta speed things up".^[2]
