Katana

The Katana is a weapon in Yandere Simulator.

Gameplay[]

In the game, the katana is found in the Headmaster's Office locked in a case, with an explanation for that in the Headmaster's Tapes.^[1] YandereDev once stated that the katana could be something that the headmaster confiscated but never got rid of.^[2] To get the Katana, Ayano must take the key to unlock the case at lunch when the headmaster isn't there.

The katana cannot be concealed in the player's inventory and is seen as suspicious. As such, if any student sees Ayano Aishi holding the katana, her reputation will be damaged by ten points at high School Atmosphere.

Ayano cannot use a katana when fighting a Heroic student and will automatically lose, as the weapon is too unwieldy to use in close quarters.

Ayano can put a katana inside a cello case or a trash can in order to conceal it.

Once disposed of, it won't return again.

Katana Animations[]

There are 4 killing animations for the katana, depending on Ayano's level of sanity. The katana animations were shown in the video "Should Yandere Simulator be re-named?"

High Sanity: She slashes their abdomen open, killing them.
Medium Sanity: She slashes their abdomen before reversing the blade and doing so again, killing them.
Low Sanity: She slashes the students shin, causing them to fall onto their stomach, before moving over them and repeatedly stabbing them in the back and neck, killing them. Previously, she would knock them down, they'd turn over, and she would cover their mouth while slicing their skirt.
Stealth Kill: She covers the student's mouth with her hand, and then drives the katana through their chest.

Trivia[]

As of the March 5th, 2016 Build, a mind slave cannot be given a katana.
Before the March 15th, 2016 Build, the katana killing animation was stabbing a student in the neck. It was not held over the shoulder either.
Ayano holds the katana the same way as she holds the axe, baseball bat, the rusty piece of scrap metal, the magical girl wand, and the shovel.
The katana killing animation is the same as the fantasy sword, the rusty piece of scrap metal,the knife blade, and the sword.
As of the June 21st, 2016 Build, there is a placeholder sound effect for the katana.
YandereDev plans to make the katana a one-of-a-kind item, so when it breaks, it stays broken.^[3]
- As of the June 15, 2022 Build, the katana will no longer respawn if it was destroyed the day before.
Kocho Shuyona confiscated it from one of the Delinquents in 1988, 34 years ago.^[4]
- As of the June 15th, 2022 Build, this has been retconned. The katana was a gift from Saisho Saikou in early 1989.
