Etsuji Odaka is one of the male students who attended Akademi in 1980s Mode.
Appearance[]
Current[]
Etsuji has messy, spiky blonde hair with shorter, darker hair in the back. He has dark hazel eyes.
If the player tells him Chigusa Busujima's hairstyle preference in order to matchmake him with her, he will tie a clump of hair into a bun on the back of his head or smooth out his front hair and let a few strands hang loose on the right side of his forehead.
He wears the default 1980s uniform with a blue and white Saikou cassette player attached to his waist.
When swimming in the evening, Etsuji wears a pair of white swimming goggles.
Previous[]
Prior to the October 21st, 2024 Build, he had messy, chocolate brown hair that reached his neck. His bangs were also messy, with the longest strand reaching past his eyebrows. He had greenish-hazel eyes.
Personality[]
Etsuji's reaction to a camera.
A gifted athlete who is already being scouted by universities. Openly talks about his favorite gravure models without shame, and even keeps gravure magazines in his sports bag.
Among the personas that are currently implemented in the game, Etsuji is Heroic. If he only sees a corpse, he will act upon the Teacher's Pet persona. If he sees Ryoba Aishi commit murder, he will run up to her and fight her.
Routine[]
Week 1, 4, and 10[]

At 7:05 AM, Etsuji enters the school grounds with the other members of the Sports Club. He walks to his locker at 7:10 AM and changes from his outdoor shoes to his indoor shoes. At 7:15 AM, he heads into the Gymnasium to do some stretches before running on the track.
At 8:00 AM, he then walks into Classroom 3-1 and sits at his desk. He starts his morning classes at 8:30 AM. Afterwards, he leaves to go eat lunch with the other club members at the sports area.

He lastly walks back to class again at 1:30 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. Afterwards, he will head to the swimming pool and will practice until the end of the day.
If the Sports Club disbands, he will still run on the track.
Week 2[]
At 7:00 AM, Etsuji enters the school grounds with the other members of the Sports Club. He walks to the locker room at 7:05 AM and changes from his outdoor shoes to his indoor shoes. After doing so, he will head to the stairs leading up to the third floor to sit down and read.
At 8:15 AM, Etsuji will run to Classroom 3-1 and sit at his desk, and start his morning classes at 8:30 AM. Afterwards, he leaves to go eat lunch with the other club members at the sports area.
Then, he runs back to class again at 1:23 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, he will head outside and do some stretches with the other Sports Club members. But he will not run on the track.
On Thursday, he will not participate during cleaning time and will instead head straight to the gymnasium to do his stretches till the end of the day.
Week 3[]
At 7:00 AM, Etsuji enters the school grounds with the other members of the Sports Club. He walks to the locker room at 7:05 AM and changes from his outdoor shoes to his indoor shoes. After doing so, he will head upstairs to sit down and read by Classroom 3-1.
At 8:15 AM, Etsuji will run to Classroom 3-1 and sit at his desk, and start his morning classes at 8:30 AM. Afterwards, he leaves to go eat lunch with the other club members at the sports area.
Then, he runs back to class again at 1:23 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, he will head outside and do some stretches with the other Sports Club members. But he will not run on the track.
On Thursday, he will not participate during cleaning time and will instead head straight to the gymnasium to do his stretches till the end of the day.
On Friday, he will instead read outside of the Calligraphy Room.
Week 5[]
At 7:00 AM, Etsuji enters the school grounds with the other members of the Sports Club. He walks to the locker room at 7:05 AM and changes from his outdoor shoes to his indoor shoes. After doing so, he will quickly head upstairs to sit down and read by the Science Club.
At 8:15 AM, Etsuji will run to Classroom 3-1 and sit at his desk, and start his morning classes at 8:30 AM. Afterwards, he leaves to go eat lunch by the Library.
Then, he runs back to class again at 1:23 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, he will head to the outside of the Infirmary to sit down and read, and stay there till the end of the day.
On Thursday, he will not participate during cleaning time and will instead sit down and read till the end of the day.
Week 6[]

At 7:00 AM, Etsuji enters the school grounds with the other members of the Sports Club. He walks to the locker room at 7:05 AM and changes from his outdoor shoes to his indoor shoes. After doing so, he will quickly head upstairs to sit down and read by the Headmaster's Office.
At 8:15 AM, Etsuji will run to Classroom 3-1 and sit at his desk, and start his morning classes at 8:30 AM. Afterwards, he leaves to go eat lunch with the other club members at the sports area.
Then, he runs back to class again at 1:23 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, he will head outside to sit down and read by the boys' shower room and stay there till the end of the day.
On Thursday, he will not participate during cleaning time and will instead sit down and read till the end of the day.
Week 7[]
At 7:00 AM, Etsuji enters the school grounds with the other members of the Sports Club. He walks to the locker room at 7:05 AM and changes from his outdoor shoes to his indoor shoes. After doing so, he will quickly head up the west side stairs leading up to the third floor to sit down and read.
At 8:15 AM, Etsuji will run to Classroom 3-1 and sit at his desk, and start his morning classes at 8:30 AM. Afterwards, he leaves to go eat lunch with the other club members at the sports area.
Then, he runs back to class again at 1:23 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, he will head outside to sit down and read by the boys' shower room and stay there till the end of the day.
On Thursday, he will not participate during cleaning time and will instead sit down and read till the end of the day.
Week 8[]
At 7:05 AM, Etsuji enters the school grounds. He walks to his locker at 7:10 AM and changes from his outdoor shoes to his indoor shoes. At 7:15 AM, he heads into the gymnasium to warm up, but will not run on the track. At 8:00 AM, Etsuji walks into Classroom 3-1 and sits at his desk. He starts his morning classes at 8:30 AM, and leaves to go eat lunch with the Sports Club.
Etsuji walks back to class again at 1:30 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. After that, he goes to sit down and read by Classroom 2-1, and stays there till the end of the day.
On Thursday, he will not participate during cleaning time and will instead sit down and read till the end of the day.
Week 9[]
Etsuji stalking Chigusa.
During Week 9, Etsuji will deviate from his regular routine to follow Chigusa Busujima around the school from time to time. When he is not stalking her, he will spend time in the Plaza.

Relationships[]
Chigusa Busujima[]
- Main article: Chigusa Busujima
Etsuji has a crush on Chigusa and is her suitor. If he is matched with her, the two will begin a romantic relationship with each other, which will eliminate her. This is the canonical way to eliminate Chigusa; YandereDev has stated that they later got married[2] and have five children together.[3][4]
Etsuji loves her body, but after entering a romantic relationship with her, he started to love her for things that he considered to be "her inner beauty."[5]
Chigusa's parents were fine with Etsuji dating their daughter.[6]
Out of all the boys in school, Etsuji was the only one willing to go through the trouble to be matchmade with her.[7] He also went through the trouble of changing his appearance to make her like him more. After they got into a relationship, he gradually reverted to his normal appearance.[8]
Trivia[]
- His name, Etsuji, means "ecstasy, joy" (etsu, 悦), while the "ji" part can be written as "two" (二) or "director, administrator" (shi/ji, 司).
- His surname, Odaka, means "little" (o, 小) and "tall" (taka/daka, 高).
- He was a Snitch prior to the October 25th, 2021 Build.[9]
- He and Banri Masayuki are the only suitors in 1980s Mode that canonically got into a relationship with their rivals.
- He was the second minor character in 1980s Mode to be confirmed to still be alive in Main Mode. The first one was Ui Tunesu.
- Etsuji became a star athlete in his 20s, and later a coach in his 30s.[10]
- The money made from being an athlete greatly helped him and Chigusa with financial support, especially when the latter's money made from her gravure career only lasted when they were 25.[10]
- Chigusa's marriage to him caused a scandal for her career after it was discovered. However, she simply didn't care and retired. While she was wealthy after retirement, Etsuji needed to get a high-paying job to support his family.[11]
