Conversational Topics are a game mechanic that determines the success of socializing and gossiping with other students in Yandere Simulator.
Gameplay[]
This system allows the protagonist to choose from 25 different conversational topics to speak about with other students. It is essential for the matchmaking elimination method, as well as both gossiping and socializing. Each student has 5 topics they like and dislike, and they feel neutral towards the rest.

Gossip interface.
In order to successfully socialize with a student, the protagonist must declare that her opinion on a topic matches that of the student she's socializing with, and in order to successfully gossip, the protagonist must declare that the target's opinion on a topic is directly opposite to that of the student she's gossiping to.
If Kuu likes reading, in order to socialize with her, the protagonist can say that they also likes reading, and in order to gossip with her, they can say that Osana hates reading, which will decrease Osana's reputation.
Topics[]
Each student has different likes and dislikes in terms of what conversational topics they like to talk about. The protagonist can learn these through trial and error, eavesdropping on a student's conversation, buying them from Info-chan (202X Mode only), asking a student to follow the protagonist around to different places, or by cyberstalking the student at night using Ayano's computer (also 202X Mode only).
The player can also enable debugs, click "\" and click "S" on their keyboard, which will open the profiles of every NPC in the game and show their conversational topics, even if they can only be found via the JSON code.
All these topics are already unlocked at the start of the game as of December 22, 2022. But students' opinions still need to be learned.

Trivia[]
- It was implemented in the September 1st, 2016 Build.
- As of the October 22nd, 2021 Build, whenever the player talks to a student about a subject (while socializing, gossiping, etc.), the player will "learn" that student's opinion about that subject (meaning that their feelings about the subject — positive, negative, neutral — will appear as an icon next to that subject in the future).
- As of the September 3rd, 2018 build, it is possible to learn a student's opinions on various topics by befriending the student, then asking them to follow the player around school, and then walking around various important locations. At that time, it was only possible with Kokona Haruka.
- School is the only Topic that yet have to be given a specific location, or interaction to unlock them.
- Certain students can get their topics unlocked, via unique ways.
- For example, Osana's task, which requires Ayano to find her cat charm in the Hedge Maze. Ayano can learn about Osana's stance on cats when the charm is located and picked up.
- The topic of Drama may be changed into Theater or Stageplays, since it represents exciting but negative events or news that are happening in other people's lives, not "actors performing on a stage".[1]
