Clothing Gallery

Clothing is an important game mechanic and a customizable part of the game aesthetic.

Gameplay[]

The protagonist and other characters can change clothes or make them dirty with blood or other liquids, which is the base for many different mechanics. It is also involved in certain tasks.

Sspray

The protagonist can spill certain liquids such as water, blood, paint or gasoline on other students from the school rooftop or using a water cooler, bucket-door or drinking fountain trap, forcing them to change their clothes. She can use it for her advantage to steal their phones while they're not looking or burn them to death.

However, when the protagonist kills a student with certain types of weapons, the blood will spill on her clothes as well. It will not only make her look suspicious to other characters but can also make the police arrest her if she doesn't dispose of it. In order to do that, she first has to change into fresh clothing in the shower room or use an emergency shower in the Science Lab and wash the dirty clothes in the washing machine or throw it in the sewer, incinerator, or vat of acid in the Science Club.

Carrying bloody clothing is considered to be suspicious as well, however, all types of clothing can be concealed in a bookbag or sometimes a trash can, with the exception of the raincoat, which is the only item where it cannot be concealed in either bags.

By default, the protagonist has only a gym uniform and a swimsuit in her locker. She can get a spare uniform by completing Hazu Kashibuchi's task and buying it from Info-chan for 5 Info-points or Nozama for $ 33.99. In 1980s Mode, Ryoba can find an extra uniform lying near a sewing machine in the corner left of the Sewing Room. Additionally, certain clubs offer their own attire which the protagonist can change into in the club room.

Clothing Types[]

School Uniforms[]

Uniforms are important to every student in Akademi. The protagonist will automatically spawn in with her uniform when she is at school, alongside her fellow peers. She will not get a penalty by wearing the uniform in every area of the school unless the uniform is bloody. Teachers and Student Council expect the protagonist to wear the uniform or her gym attire inside the school building. Wearing none of the two options will get her in trouble.

Before starting a save file in 202X Mode, the player has the ability to choose one of 6 uniform types, for both male and female students separately. In 1980s Mode, the player is restricted to one uniform type. The player can combine these uniforms with a max of 12 combinations. Student Council members wear a recolored version of the 5th uniform.

During the early stages of the game development, multiple alternatives to the default uniform has been suggested, but none of them were implemented. The first two uniforms were made by Druelbozo, however, it is unclear whether or not YandereDev had ever planned to implement it.[1] The third uniform was shown by YandereDev on May 27th, 2016 on his blog alongside a poll asking whether people liked it or not, however, it hasn't been mentioned since.[2] The fourth uniform was shown a year later on December 1st, 2017 but wasn't mentioned again ever since as well.[3]

Club Attire[]

Main article: Clubs

Some of the clubs have special types of clothing that allow the protagonist to kill without getting the school uniform bloody. Some of them have additional properties when worn while a part of the club they're associated with. The protagonist will not wear them initially when joining the club. They are especially used during Mission Mode if the player has to wear a specific club attire to complete their mission.

All club attire have one thing in common, not being able to leave the club while wearing said attire. If the player attempts to do so, there will not be a "Leave Club" option for them.

If the player has a folded clean club attire but left the club, the attire will not disappear. However, the player cannot wear it again.

Trivia[]

  • Students who have tasks related to clothing in 202X mode are Kokona Haruka, Saki Miyu, Ryuto Ippongo, and Seiyo Akanishi. In 1980s Mode, they are Kaguya Wakaizumi, Chigusa Busujima, and students with the fifth placeholder task.
  • During the early stages of the development, there once was a plan that if the player was a member of the Sewing Club, she would have access to infinite clean uniforms.[4]
  • The original intro included a several types of uniform that were later removed. They included a recolored version of the Mission Mode blazer, red version of the default uniform, and "one piece" uniform heavy resembling a swimsuit and suggesting that panty shots will be unavailable and that it would be unlocked after beating the game once.
    • The alternate blazer was a K-ON! reference,[5] as students in the anime wore that uniform.
    • Running by the Confession Tree would have Ayano's outfit turn into a black and red version automatically in old builds of the game. It has since been removed due to it being reported as a bug several times.
  • Due to the way the game handles clothing textures, the protagonist can only wear gloves when wearing her uniform. She cannot wear them when nude, in a club uniform, in a gym uniform, or in a swimsuit.
  • The uniform policy in 1989 was much more strict.[6]
  • Ichiko wanted a brown uniform for students, but Kocho Shuyona absolutely disliked it, and made them white starting in 1990.[7]
