Aoi Ryugoku is one of the female students who currently attends Akademi. She is the Enforcer of the Student Council.
Appearance[]
Aoi has shoulder-length dark blue, natural[4] hair and a blue eye. Her bust size is 1. Her short hair is a deliberate form of rebellion against her parents.[5]
She wears the Student Council uniform with the Red Armband of Leadership on her left arm reading 生徒会 (seito kai), meaning Student Council written in kanji, a black eyepatch on her left eye with a white dragon on it and black stockings with a blue line on the sides. The lines also have blue dragon scales on them. She has poor posture,[6] shown in her idle and walking animation.
Using Pose Mode to remove her eyepatch reveals that her missing eye is closed. As of the May 19th, 2021 build, Aoi has an eye scar and her eyebrows are now dark blue. On December 3rd, 2021, her eye scar seems to have been removed. When outside of school, Aoi wears masculine clothing and prefers pants over dresses.[7] Although a tuxedo would be "too masculine" for Aoi, she would wear a black pantsuit.[8]
Personality[]
Aoi Ryugoku is the Enforcer of the Student Council. That means her job is to maintain peace throughout the school. She is a very physically imposing person, so it's no mystery why Megami chose her for this position. However, she's been known to take her job a little too seriously.
There are a handful of students at school who hide one of their eyes for some personal reason, but Aoi is currently the only student who is 100% confirmed to actually be missing an eye. As of now, there are only two students at school who know how Aoi lost her eye.
Enforcer of the student council. Charged with the task of maintaining peace throughout the school. Often uses physical intimidation to enforce rules.
Among the personas currently implemented in the game, Aoi is Dangerous. If she sees Ayano Aishi commit murder, she will run up, spray her with pepper spray, and restrain her. She will push Ayano away if she gets too close and will spray her with pepper spray if she attempts to kill her without stealth or gets too close five times. She will break up fights between Ayano and a delinquent by threatening them. If Ayano aims her phone at her, she'll stand still but show no reaction. Intimidation will not work on her if Ayano has joined the delinquents. She is also not affected by seduction.
A lot of information about Aoi can mainly describe her as cold-hearted, insensitive, and incredibly anti-social with everyone she meets. YandereDev describes her as "not very sensitive", as she also seems to lack empathy due to not recognizing panic attacks as legitimate. In her opinion, a student facing a panic attack is merely lacking self-control, being childish, and freaking out for no good reason. Aoi wouldn't be able to identify a student as having a panic attack and would make things worse for the student due to this.[9] Additionally, due to her cold personality, her response to someone harming themselves would be to scold them and tell them that it doesn't accomplish anything. Her "kindness" is simply not being impolite. She would not comfort or get the person help, but she would report them to Genka Kunahito in hopes that the latter does something to help the struggling student.[10]
Despite this persona, she is still someone with basic feelings and reactions. One of her more "normal" reactions would be if someone told Aoi they look up to her, which would make her feel embarrassed and blush, all while trying to hide her embarrassment and blush with dismissive language, the language acting as a front to maintain the personality that others see her for.[11] She would feel heart-warmed if someone gave her unexpected kindness, even though she would not express this outwardly. This is because she conditioned herself to view the world as a "shitty place", expecting 0 kindness from other people, and that showing kindness to a person who showed her the same would contradict her "tough girl" image she has built her for herself.[12] Due of her formulated image as a rough and rude person she is someone who uses profanity a lot.[13] Although this presents her as strong willed, she can be emotionally manipulated, as she is ranked in second place when calculated among her student council peers.[14]
In the Death Demon's ritual, it is revealed that when Aoi is faced with a problem, she defaults to violence to solve that problem. Violence comes naturally to Aoi in any aspects of her life, even through socializing with others. In a hypothetical situation where someone were to give her attitude, her responses would gradually escalate depending on how provocative the person is.[15] Despite her liking for violence, she would not be judgmental to someone who killed another person in a "clear-cut case" of self defense.[16] However, she would use violence if someone crosses/violates her personal boundaries, such as someone trying to smell her. In that situation, she would break their nose so that they can't smell anything.[17] She is also a confrontational person, as she would would barge in and dare the student to repeat what they said if the latter revealed their perverted thoughts to the student council members.[18] She also abuses her position as the student council, to the point where a hypothetical situation in seeing a student do something they shouldn't do out of school would have her tell them to stop, before realizing that she was outside of school. This instinctual and reflexive urge shows how Aoi often uses her position at the enforcer at Akademi in order to put people in their place.[19]
YandereDev imagines Aoi to be naturally fit as a result of living a rough-and-tumble lifestyle. Therefore, it isn't needed for her to train or exercise in places like gyms, but it's not unrealistic to see her in such places.[20] She began working out as a way to relieve her stress, before continuing with it. This is because being strong makes her feel like she has use that she may otherwise not have.[21] Aoi is someone who is concerned about her physical fitness,[22] as such, she is very strong. However, she does not enjoy anything academic, as she would barely get any questions right in a trivia game,[23] and Aoi would grow bored and give up quickly in a jigsaw puzzle.[24] In addition to having slightly below average grades,[25] she is also not very good with technology.[26]
As one of the strongest students in Akademi, she could kill people in a life-or-death situation, even though she has no desire to do so.[27] Her routine is to go jog in the morning, "typical workout exercises" and hitting a punching bag when she is at home and completed all of her schoolwork.[28] Aoi's fighting style is a blend of "raw street-fighting" and traditional martial arts training. This type of style is often aggressive, and while she wants to fight with honor, she would not mind fighting with dirty tricks.[29] The only time Aoi would react into "fight mode" is if someone threw a punch at her, which would get her to stop the opponent as soon as possible. She would also only accept a challenge depending on how "annoying" this person is, if they persist despite her declinations, she would accept and then defeat them. Aoi also uses the "self-defense" argument to ensure she wins if someone decides to insult/threaten her, as she wants to see how far they can cross and what kind of words they are willing to use.[30]
If Aoi caught Ayano being visibly lewd, she would snatches her phone and crushes it with one fist.[31]
Backstory[]
She lost her eye when she was young, around age 10 or a little younger.[32] YandereDev wants to explain Aoi's missing eye in a video if the artwork for the video ever gets finished[33] or if he finds an artist.[34]
YandereDev explains that part of Aoi's backstory is that she knows someone who has harmed themselves before, and has the scars as a result of their self-harm. Aoi's deep understanding in the person hurting themselves would have her "uncharacteristically" show them her compassion.[10]
Routine[]

At 7:00 AM, Aoi leaves the Student Council Room and begin patrolling all floors in the school, including the Rooftop.
At 8:00 AM, Aoi walks to Classroom 2-2, sits at her desk and plays on her phone. She starts her morning classes at 8:30 AM and leaves to go to patrol the floors again at 1:00 PM. She walks back to class again at 1:22 PM, sits at her desk, and plays around on her phone again until her next classes start. Her next classes start at 1:30 PM. At 3:30 PM, Aoi goes back to patrolling the floors again. At 4:00 PM, she goes to the Student Council Room and stays there for the rest of the day.
On Fridays at 3:30 PM, Aoi will go to the Meeting Room and meet up together with the rest of the Student Council and all the club leaders to have a meeting.
If Aoi is fired in Mission Mode, she will eat lunch in the Student Council room instead of patrolling the school which enables the player to poison her. Furthermore, firing her allows the player to interact with Aoi like any regular student.

- Hobbies: Her hobby is boxing.[22] She also goes jogging, works out, exercises, weight-lifts, and shadowboxes. [35] When decompressing, she likes to jog and hit a punching bag.[36]
- Music preferences: She enjoys listening to rock and punk music,[37] and has even gone to a rock concert before.[38] She also likes music that can help her feel "fired up" when she is jogging, exercising and training.[39]
- When sprinting at full speed, intense rock music helps her to do so while jogging. One of her favorite songs is the instrumental version of Master of Puppets by Metallica.[40]
- Media preferences: She watches martial arts videos.[41] She also enjoys any film involving a lot of martial arts.[42]
- Favorite color: Her favorite color is blue.[43]
- Favorite food: As a result of her physique, she eats a lot of meat for the protein to grow her muscles.[22] She also avoids caffeine and sugar based drinks; often opting for water, protein shakes and drinks that have a lot of electrolytes.[44]

- She would also only wear dresses if it was undoubtedly necessary to not embarrass Megami, or at a formal event where a dress is the expected attire. As such, Aoi would prefer any formal attire that aren't dresses.[16]
- She also likes to wear clothes that align with male fashion, such as a jacket, t-shirt and jeans.[48]
- For her "forced" cosplay, Aoi would pick a tough girl with an eyepatch, like Minene Uryu from Mirai Nikki.[49]

Relationships[]
Aoi is the most anti-social, non talkative, and least interested girl out of her club members. Many of her manners, personality traits, and facts about Aoi contribute to her introverted aura. She doesn't want or like talking to people in general.[56] She also doesn't want other people to try and become her friend.[57] In a hypothetical situation, if someone tried to persistently befriend Aoi, she would initially be annoyed. She would gradually feel flattered that someone cares about befriending her, and would eventually give in and become their friend reluctantly.[58] Aoi is willing to fight someone (if the latter challenged her), but is not willing to train someone, even if they asked her.[59] In addition, someone demanding Aoi to train them would make her tell them to "fuck off".[60]
Aoi has never been attracted to any guy. She just never finds men attractive, so she never spends any time thinking about what would make her attracted to a guy.[61] However, if she were to somehow fall in love, she would act tsundere and show her affection by showing extra concern for the person‘s well-being.[62] The player will learn whether Aoi likes men or women romantically,[63] but it is known that a confession from a girl would surprise Aoi "a little more".[64] However, one thing that YandereDev confirms is that due to spoilers, she would decline the confession,[48] and would be more annoyed at a public confession.[65] He also explains that Aoi views romance and relationships as something that other people could experience, but not her.[66]
If Aoi had a boyfriend and he broke her heart, Aoi would knock out the boy who broke her heart, while tears flowed from her eyes.[67]
Student Council Members[]
- Main article: Student Council
Aoi generally trusts the other student council members, and has allowed them to make and enforce the important decisions. She also only speaks to them when she is spoken to during club meetings. With the student council, she can be described as being serious and business like, similar to Kuroko Kamenaga.[68] She is the only member of the Student Council who applied to be a member, rather than being approached by Megami.[69] Megami would have approached her if she had not applied.[70] While the other student council members have their own reactions to being fired, YandereDev has yet to reveal Aoi's reaction to being fired.[71]
- Megami Saikou: According to YandereDev, the only person Aoi considers as her only[72] friend is Megami.[11] She has a good relationship with Megami, even staying loyal to Megami. Aoi is much less tense, and much more calm when alone with Megami. The two of them speak much more casually when they are the only two in the room. When Aoi is alone with Megami, she behaves differently and is less formal.[73] She is the only member of the Student Council to have been in the same room as Megami's family.[74] She has no interest in celebrating her birthday, but Megami insists that she should celebrate it every year. Aoi doesn't want a large fancy celebration, so the two of them compromise by eating cake together.[75] There are instances where Aoi does smile, but her smiles are small and subtle, with some chuckles when she is with Megami.[76] There is a rumor that Megami is involved with her missing eye, but it is unconfirmed in the video.[77] If Aoi had to wear makeup for an event, she would ask Megami for help.[78]
- Kuroko Kamenaga: When Aoi interacts with Kuroko, and she asks Aoi to do something (such as patrolling an area, Aoi would say she got it.[79] However, Kuroko thinks that Aoi seems like an unintelligent brute and does not understand why Megami appointed her to be a part of the student council.[80] In return, Aoi thinks that Kuroko is too stuck-up, cold, stiff and businesslike. Aoi thinks Kuroko should be a bit more casual.[81]
- Akane Toriyasu: Aoi does not directly interact with Akane much unless it has to do something with patrol routines, for example.[79] Akane is afraid of Aoi, and views her as scary.[82]
- Shiromi Torayoshi: YandereDev describes many of their conversations similar to a comedy routine.[83] Aoi thinks of Shiromi Torayoshi as annoying.[56] If Shiromi asked Aoi out on a date, the latter would scoff and not give a proper answer, assuming it's a joke and her expression would make it obvious that she thinks it's exhausting to be around Shiromi.[84] Shiromi would pick Aoi to date out of the rest of the student council, since Aoi is vulnerable to teasing.[85] One of the notable hypothetical dialogue between Shiromi and Aoi shows that Shiromi continuously bothering Aoi about why the latter didn't smile, and making bogus theories, such as an apocalypse forming if Aoi did smile.[79] A situation of Aoi being told of Shiromi's past would make Aoi listen halfway, say she doesn't care, and leave the room.[86] Aoi doesn't have any desire to challenge Shiromi for a race but the latter might challenge her. But she would decline the offer. Aoi would win due as she jogs everyday.[87]
Family[]
YandereDev describes Aoi's family dynamic as extremely strained, as she hates her parents. This hate is deeply rooted in Aoi to the point where she even moved out when she was 18 to escape them[88] by purchasing an apartment in Buraza Town with access to her parents' money.[89] The identity of her parents is important to her backstory.[90] Information about Aoi's parents include that they are among the top 10 wealthiest families on Earth and they are from Tokyo. One notable fact about her parents is that if their daughter got a "normal" job, it would be unacceptable to them, since it would bring shame to her family's name.[89] YandereDev considers them as classists, which resulted in Aoi living like a "poor person" in order to avoid embodying any traits that make her look spoiled, as she considers her parents beliefs to be disgusting.[91]
Aoi's parents have forced their daughter to try and dress up as a "proper woman" since Aoi was a child. An outstanding example of enforcing this included the fact that the reason why she doesn't wear makeup is because it reminds her of the times in her childhood when her parents would drag her against her will to charity events for the super-wealthy, and would make her wear expensive dresses she didn't want to wear, and makeup that she had no interest in.[92] Her poor posture is a result of the same issue; forcing Aoi to be "prim and proper" at all times when she was a child. She deeply hated this to the point where she deliberately avoids being feminine or proper, as she wishes to defy her over-controlling parents. One way that this has manifested is in a slouchy and poor posture.[93] She also has awful memories of her parents dragging her to events and making her dress, look or wear a certain way.[46] Aoi often defies her parents in many ways, the notable include being as manly as she can be. She has also snuck out before when she was grounded.[94] These reasons for being grounded included defying and disrespecting her parents, not behaving the exact way that her parents want her to, or not following their instructions.[48]
The cause of their strained relationship was the fact that Aoi's parents used Saisho Saikou's childrearing techniques in order to try and mold their daughter into being a machine that is efficient and never expresses their emotions. YandereDev says that they "spectacularly" failed in raising Aoi, which caused Aoi's hate to manifest into an extremely rebellious attitude.[5]
Others[]
- Delinquents: The delinquents dislike and distrust Aoi.[95] This is likely because Aoi caused Osoro Shidesu to break her own radio after confronting her about complaints of loud music playing while the delinquents were spying on the conflict between the two women.[96]
- Martial Arts Club: If she weren't in the Student Council, she would be in the Martial Arts Club.[97][34] She would also repeatedly try to be the leader of the club by constantly challenging the leader into a fight.[98]
- YandereDev has even written out a situation where she defeats most of the Martial Arts Club before being defeated by Budo Masuta.[99]
- Ayano Aishi: Aoi will accept food from the Cooking Club members, but not from Ayano. As with all other student council members, she is also tasked with keeping an eye on Ayano, ordered by Megami. According to YandereDev, Aoi thinks that Ayano is too quiet, almost giving her the creeps.[100]

- She was first shown in the "The Student Council in Yandere Simulator (Gameplay Focus)" video.
- She's based on one of the four gods in Chinese mythology, namely "Azure Dragon" (青龍, read as Seiryou).
- Her first name may consist of the same kanji as in Azure Dragon's Japanese name (青, read as Ao) which means "green blue", or of the alternative kanji (蒼, also read as Ao) which means "pale blue", together with a sentence-ending particle (い, read as I). Her last name may also consist of the same kanji as in Azure Dragon's Japanese name (龍, read as Ryu) which means "dragon", or of another kanji for the word "dragon" (竜, also read as Ryu), together with kanji 極 (read as Goku) which means "quindecillion" or kanji 獄 (also read as Goku) which means "prison".
